Consulate Review: London, United Kingdom
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : February 13, 2014
Embassy Review : Ok, well I had planned to get there an hour before my interview, but I probably got there around half an hour before. It was quite easy to find from the hotel I stayed at the Lincoln House Hotel, pretty much a straight road to it.

As I walked past the embassy towards the huts where security directs you, I saw an armed policeman, he smiled and said Good Morning, which was nice!! I went through security in the space of around 5 minutes, they seem to allow people in groups of around 4. The receptionist then gives you a number and you go up the stairs and take a seat. I thought I would be there for quite a while, but I was called within the hour.

They seem to have different codes some beginning with I, N, V, E. I was an I most seemed to be N. No idea what it means but I suspect it might be different type visas. My number was called and I proceeded to the booth that they asked me to go to. There was a young guy, polite and friendly enough. He asked me for my ds 160 receipt of payment, I couldn't find it, but he said that's ok I will print it off for you. He asked for certified birth certificate, my passport, my affidavit of support and I gave him the w2. He then proceeded to take my finger prints and handed me my chest xray. He asked me to take a seat, I did.

I only sat for about half an hour or so and was called again. This time I was told it was the interview. I was made to swear an oath and then my fingerprints were taken to seal that oath. He asked me the following questions: where did I meet my fiance? When? Did I have children? Did my fiance? When did I first visit? Why did I not visit sooner? Have I been married before? Has my fiance been married? When do I intend to go to the USA? I answered the questions and then he said congratulations you have been approved. We did have a little chat about the weather, where he was from etc. He was extremely pleasant and easy to get on with, as I was VERY nervous, but he put me at ease. It took all of five minutes and it was all over. He did add at the end, remember you need to get married within 90 days, when I mentioned a church wedding and counselling before I said I know we will probably do a civil wedding firstly then have our blessing as 90 days might not be long enough. Good experience, nice people at the embassy.
Rating : Very Good

POE Review: Philadelphia
Event Description
Entry Date : 2014-05=10
Embassy Review : Ok, apologies to everyone for not being on here for a while, but had so much to tie up at home before departure.. Any way after quite a pleasant flight I arrived at Philadelphia airport. I was praying there wasn't three planes coming in at the same time as I had experienced in the past.

It seemed there was only ours although other's did follow shortly afterwards, after about 10 minutes or so, it was my turn to go to border control. I produced the enormous envelope and he knew immediately what it was. We joked about the contents inside and then he steered me towards an interview room,(secondary interview).

I sat down not knowing what to do, until one of the men behind a desk in this open room said come here. He asked me for the envelope and passport and then told me to sit down. I sat there looking around, there was a guy sat next to me and to my right a lady having her suitcase searched. Three more people who seemed to be together walked in asking for the bathroom

I found that the room wasn't very private at all. The guy next to me had some kind of felony, I didn't want to over hear, but I couldn't help but do so.

After what seemed an eternity, I was again ushered to the front desk by the man who had taken my envelope and passport. He had been looking at his computer, probably a background check. He asked me if my fiance was in the country. I wanted to answer I bloody hope so, but I didn't I just said yes. He then asked when are you getting married. I said in a couple of weeks and we will have the "Big Wedding* at a later date as 90 days doesn't really give us time to get everyone together or planned. He said he understood our predicament.

And that was it, no pom and ceremony, I didn't hear trumpets or a fan fare. I just simply collected my suitcase from the conveyor belt and went on my merry way, tired and hot, but so excited to be reunited with my fiance.

PS. I didn't get the normal questions of why was I here, how long for, how much money I was carrying, what I did for a living, what my fiance did for a living etc.

All in all a good experience, although it was very hot in that airport and I did feel sorry for the border control guys working in that heat.

Hi Shelley. Congratulations on your post from Feb-16 when you applied for a replacement green card (https://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/561058-replacing-a-lost-or-stolen-green-card/?tab=comments#comment-8021496) and was wondering how long it took you to finally get the replacement. I'm in a similar situation: lost my GC and its been 4 months since the biometrics and I have no updates. Spoke to someone on the phone and they told me it takes 3 to 14 months, so I don't even have the right to get an update for 14 months. Pretty frustrating.

Sorry only just saw this post over 2 years later. I hope you got your replacement. I was lucky with my GC, I was due to apply for ROC when it was supposedly stolen, only it turned u p at my old UK address when my purse was returned a year later, so it was never stolen. Anyway, they wanted me to pay for a new GC, but ROC was due a month later, so my husband complained saying we have already paid thousands and the manager from Pittsburgh rang me up, apologised and said don't worry we will just give you a 155i stamp instead that will last for a year.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
