There are two lines outside the embassy. Only me and a small family in my line. Whem told by a guard to come up to the entrance I simply showed my passport, took my jacket off, swirled around and showed the backside of my shoes. After that I was allowed inside in the security room that works like the security at an airport. I just had what I needed in a plastic bag, didn't even bring my cell phone as I didn't want to leave it with the guards. Followed the line up to the house and came to a waiting room with lots of tills in one end of the room. When one guard understood I was there for an immigrant visa he told me to just walk up to one of the tills to 'report' myself. Talked to a Swedish guy who just asked for my proves of a an ongoing relationship. Had everything I wanted to show them printed out. Then he asked if I had a police certificate with me and I said no, it didn't say anything about that in the instructions. He showed the one he had from NVC and it was dated Sep 18 last year meaning I have to go before that date. I didn't know that, thought it was 6 months after medical exam. He informed me about me having the chance to have a permanent green card instead of a conditional as we were only 1,5 week away from being married two years. Of course I wanted them to issue the visa to after our two year anniversary. Then I was told to sit down and read that document they all want people who are coming to the USA to read before going. After about 15 minutes an american lady called me. Had to hold my right hand up and read something about saying the truth to my knowledge.
Then the interview started. Had questions like, how did you meet, when did you meet, how many times has he visited you, how many times have you visited him, have you met his family, did any of his family attend the marriage, what is he doing for a living, what am I doing for a living, when did I do the medical exam and a few more questions I don't remember. Then I was told they would send me a decision after they received the medical exam they hadn't received yet, as I only did that a week earlier, and after we have been married for two years so I could have a permanent green card issued instead of a conditional. After that I just left the building.
Feels really strange it was over. The interview was the easiest of it all compared to all the hassle we had with the paperwork and backlogs at both USCIS and NVC. But now it is over and I can go. |
