Event Description

Embassy Review : Its has been an stressful journey but this website has made it much easier. Datboybaeza has help me sooo much and I cannot thank him enough. So....our interview was on 4-22-14 at 6:45am. We were up by 2:30 because we paid a van that takes people from Santiago to the consulate. It picked us up at 3am and we had to go get the rest of the people that had their medical appointments or interview appt. We left Santiago around 4:30am and arrived to the consulate at 6am. The line was pretty long and my fiancé was extremely nervous, but I told him to calm down that no matter what we had our appointment and we were getting in. The "buscones" were on the other side of the street and we never got near them. They did not trouble us at all. When we made the line, a staff member asked for the appointment letter and gave us a number "088".

Before 7am they started letting everyone in. There was one main line and once it got closer to the main door we were separated into men and women. Since I didn't take a purse, I was told to stay in the middle and I went ahead of the line. My fiancé stayed in his line with the papers and we met up inside. Once we got inside it was crowded and we sat all the way at the front of the big waiting area. Right away they started calling numbers. Around 8am we were called to window 18 and that's when they asked me fiancé for his DS160, banco popular receipts, police report, and appointment letter. He was told to pay the $80 dollars. After paying the 80 dollars we brought the receipt back to window 18 and they told us to sit down.

We sat down and an hour later we were called to window 18, that's when they asked my fiancé for his birth certificate and told him to go to window 16 to get his fingerprints. The line was loooonnnngg. We waited 30 minutes or more till we finally got to the front of the line and he got it done. We were told to sit down again. By the time we sat down, it was 9 something and from there the time seemed to drag. We started looking at people getting interviewed and we weren't being called. We started getting anxious and nervous and just overwhelm. We kept seeing other couples with their green slip and paying at domex and we wanted to be those couple too. Finally at 11am we were called to window 23. My fiancé held the door for me so I was the first one to arrived to the window, I gave a big smile to the consul lady. She was African American, in her early 30's, nice but skeptical. She asked me if I spoke English and I said yes, then she asked my fiancé and he said no. So she told him to stay by me while she asked me a few questions.

She asked me (petitioner):
Were you here in DR in December?
What date did you arrive in December?
How long was your trip for?
What do you do?
What are you doing your Master's on?
So you work full time and go to school full time too?
Does your fiancé knows what you are studying?

She asked him (beneficiary):
What date did she arrived in December? (I arrived December 30 but my fiancé went to my parents house on the 29th and stayed there so they could all pick me up together. We stayed at my parents' house for a week and then with his family 2 more weeks. She kept telling us that it was strange that our parents let us sleep together before marriage, she laughed and said our parents were extremely modern, and kept asking questions about if it was uncomfortable and so on.)

So her parents most really love you to let you stay with her daughter in the same room?

How many times has she come to visit you?

What subject does she teach?

What is she studying? What does she do on her spare time?

How old are you?

After looking at the papers, and going into the computer, she said
"Bueeeennnnooo senores, yo no veo ningun problema en darle su visa, ustedes son aprovado y pueden ir a pagar a domex"

I was still in shock when she said it because of the "buuuuuennnooo" it sounded so bad that I was afraid of the worse. my fiancé hugged me and kissed me but I couldn't move, I just kept looking at the lady. Finally, my fiancé started walking and I followed. We went and payed domex and left. Outside we hugged each other tight and celebrated.
It was the longest morning of my life but it was rewarding and I am so glad we got approved, now we just wait for him to have his visa in hand.
Rating : Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
