Embassy Review : |
When I arrived at the Embassy, several people were waiting outside the Embassy being confused about when/how/if/where they could enter and it made me a little nervous because I didn't know what to do either. The first person I asked led me to the wrong entrance. When I found the correct one, I was greeted by a security guard who gave me instructions. Unfortunately I had difficulties understanding his English, and I was still confused about what to do. Once I made it past the security checkpoint everything got much more pleasant.
I was brought to a smaller interview room right away (even though I was there way too early). A woman who talked in German to me went through all my documents with me to see if they were complete and then took my finger prints.
After that I was sent to the general waiting area. There were dozens of people already waiting there, but surprisingly it didn't take that long for me to be called (about 15 minutes). I didn't expect the "interview" to just be a few questions being asked at the counter in front of all the waiting people! At least I knew they wouldn't ask me any too-personal questions He asked very generic questions à la, What does your Fiancé do?, How did you meet?, When did you decide to get married?, Were you married before?, Have you set a wedding date yet?, etc. The consular officer also took a closer look at all the pictures that we sent with our I-129f and the new ones I brought to the interview. He had no interest in seeing the Letter of Intent to Marry or all the printed chatlogs and emails I had brought.
He then said I could pick up the visa the following day, or the day after that. I asked, Does that mean it's approved? He answered that it was not 100% yet but that it looked good and I would get the definite decision in the afternoon. I had been hoping I would get the answer right away.
I was not sure I was really done with everything at this point, it seemed too easy! So I, again, asked just about every person I saw on the way out but they all confirmed that that was it!
Overall I found that people could have been more helpful and more well-organized, but everyone was friendly and everything was very quick and I was very glad! |

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
