Hello everyone

I just want to provide an update and also to warn those who mislead and provide wrong information. I know in some cases, you are trying to be helpful but none of us are immigration officers but yet you tried to forced your opinion and try to scared people. Last year, there was a BIG debate about my situation. I was pregnant and decided to have my baby overseas, I left the US June, 2019. My son was born in December 2019 in Italy, vaccination is not given until the child is 3 months so I decided not to travel until he was vaccinated. My return was scheduled for April, 2020, as we are all aware Covid-19 hit Italy and the entire world, I had multiple flight cancellations which delayed my return. After many attempts, I finally made it back to the US May 31, 2020. I was NOT questioned by immigration upon my arrival as to why I was outside the country for so long as a green card holder, STANDARD entry. Bear in mind, while I was in Italy, I had TWO interviews scheduled for my naturalization, I requested BOTH to be cancelled, one was in September, 2019. I was 6 months pregnant at the time and didn't want to travel. Then a month or so later, a 2nd interview was scheduled for January, 2020, again I didn't want to travel with my newborn less than a month old without vaccination, I requested the 2ND cancellation. While in Italy, my 3RD interview was scheduled, I knew that I would be pushing my luck so amidst Covid-19, I made all the effort to return to the US especially with the fact that I was VERY close to reaching my 1 year outside the country. I had my naturalization interview, no drilling, the officer was actually friendly. She asked why I was outside the country for that period of time, I told her I was pregnant, had my son plus Covid-19 delayed my return by a month. I also took with me a printout from USCIS website that basically says, for any stay beyond the 6 months exception can be granted if the individual does not give up their resident. I never did, our condo was vacate the entire time, my address never change. I did quit my job as I could no longer work with the time difference but besides that my intention from the beginning was never to abandon my green card status. She said, she could not approved my case that day (August 14th) and that she will need to speak with her supervisor. Today I received a notification that my naturalization has been approved!!!!

For those who have unique situation like myself, explore USCIS website and get answers there. A lot of people had said that I will not be accepted back inside the country because I abandoned my green card and that if I am allowed my naturalization will be denied NEITHER of that happened. I might be an exceptional case but don't provide people who are seeking answers your opinion, provide facts that they can seek out themselves.

Good luck to all those who are still waiting

Embassy Review : Had interview today at 9:30 today and getting to the embassy was indeed a journey but we made it, thank God! So my fiancé and I made if pretty much for 9:30 even thou we left Montego Bay at 4:40am. Arriving at the embassy we were greeted by an employee outside the embassy asking for DS 156/156k/157/160/230, told her ds160 wasn’t on the checklist to bring, we gave her the ds 230 as we had brought 2 copies just in case and gave them to her. She lacks customer service major, even my fiancé notice and was looking at her strange.  My fiancé wasn’t allowed to enter inside the embassy which we already knew based on reviews on VJ but was hoping to get lucky. Anyways I went through the security checkpoint and then inside the embassy building, collected my number (the lucky one  After about 10-15mins, my number was called and documents were collected and ds230 was returned to me, I was asked for the Affidavit of Support (I134), I attached with bank statements, assets, tax return with w2 for 2010-2012, they were returned to me with the exception of the Affidavit of Support (I134) ad 2012 tax return. The person who collected my documents appeared to be a CO but maybe working in another area, he ask if I am married which I said no, then he stated persons applied for K1 visa and got married before coming to the interview claiming they didn’t know, we laughed about it. He told me I cannot get married before going to the US which I answered and said we are well aware. He asked me to pay my visa fee ($240US) and to return back to him after. Visa fee was paid and after I went back to the CO, I was given my passport and was told to wait until my name was called. There were approximately 30 persons waiting and I was the last to be called. Finally, around 11:40am my name was called by a young officer, he commented by saying am the last but now the least, I laughed and said hope not. So I was asked the following questions in no specific order:
How did you meet?
Where is he (my fiancé) originally from?
What does he do?
Where have we been in Jamaica?
How did he propose?
How many times have I been to the US?
Have I ever been anywhere else outside of the US?
Have I ever been arrested?
If my fiancé has any children

None of my supporting documents were looked at; updated proof of ongoing relationship, bank statements or anything else from what I mentioned previously. I was given back our original photos. Overall was a great experience but the time was tedious.

Embassy Review : We had our interview on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 @ 12:30pm, almost got there late had we had some last minute errands to do. After arriving at the Miami location, my husband and I cleared the security check point and proceeded to the information desk, we showed our appointment letter and told to be seated. My husband and I waited for approximately 15-20mins before being called. The immigration officer sworn us in and read the penalty of marriage fraud (we weren't concern as our marriage is genuine and our love is solid). The officer asked for our names, date of births and address, she also asked me a list of security questions which I answered all no.

She asked how we met and asked for proof of living together, we showed her all our photos including wedding albums, joint bank account, rental agreement and a few original documents that we previously sent. The interview lasted about 15mins, mostly with her processing my documents. She then said I should receive my green card in the next 2 weeks and explained the 2 years condition on the green card and how and when to remove it. Overall we had a super nice officer who didn't give us a warm time, of course having a genuine marriage placed a big difference.

Oh, one more thing, my passport wasn't stamp and neither was my EAD taken from be, the case has been updated to say that they have mailed me a notice of registration for my permanent resident card javascript:emoticon('')

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
