Consulate Review: Manila, Philippines
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : December 9, 2013
Embassy Review : Thank God evrything went well. I would like to share my experience to other K1 visa applicants in VJ.

I was there at 5:30am. Sked is 7:30am. A few guys were offering chair rentals for 30 pesos. These chairs are aligned however this is not the line for K1. At 6:15am the guard will ask for K1 applicants to fall in line with the immigrant applicants. PHoNEs and gadgets are not allowed. Some people will offer you their service to keep them for you, so the risk is yours, better not to bring one or ask a relative or a family member to keep it for you while waiting. For those who worry that they cannot communicate after the interview, a few people are offering text and even can call overseas services. I ask one lady and she said 50 pesos per minute for overseas calls.

While in the line outside the embassy going inside, they will ask for your passport ( they will put a sticker with a number on it. They will hand you a delivery form from 2go which has the same number sticked in your passport so be sure not to lose this. They will ask for this form at the final part of the process. A guy lost his so he looked around to find it, very inconvenient ) interview appointment letter and DS-160. One female K1 applicant doesn't have hers so she was asked to print it first and was given 30 minutes to do that, so do not forget to print the confirmation page ( page with the bar code and your photo in it ).

After entering the first door, this is the security check room. When done, go out and you will see a line branching out to several lines where you can get your number. They will give you your number and instructions on where to go and give you a list of the requirements. For K1, door 2 which is intended for immigrant applicants. Upon entering door 2 ( this is the main embassy interview bldg. ) another security check. After the security check, the lady will ask for your interview appointment letter, then you can take your seat and wait for your number to be posted in the electronic board. It creates a sound to know that it will flash a new number so be attentive.

First call: is for biometrics - ask for your name, bday and petitioner's
Waiting...

Second call: a filipino or filipina embassy staff will ask your documents like birth certificate, cenomar, nbi, etc. you can check for the complete list via this link:
http://photos.state.gov/libraries/manila/325288/packets/K1%20and%20K2%20Interview%20Preparation%20Instructions%20-%20English%20_10%20October%202013_.pdf

She will also ask for some questions about you and your fiance.
Some are these:
Your complete name, bday
Petitoner's compelte name, bday
What is his job
What is the name of the company
If you have previous marriages and your petitioner as well
When was his first marriage
When was his divorced finalized
When was the last time you've seen him
What countries did you visited in the last 5 years
Did you work or just for vacation
How about your kids? Are they travelling with you? If no, Why not?
She will remind you that your kids can only be issued a visa within one year from the k1 visa issued date
How many are we in the house where we intend to live? I said 5. She checked on my fiance's w2 and 1040 and said it is even more than enough for a family of five. I wasnt prepared for this question so if you and your fiance have kids to support, you need to discuss this.
Do you have pictures? She did not ask for them but told me to hand them to the consul when asked to.

Frankly, she had more questions than the consul. Lolz!
Another wait began... This was the longest... Too long that we were asked to take our lunch and be back before 1pm.

I came back 15 mins before 1pm.
I was the first interviewee
Third call: Chinese/ American consul in Window 59. I believe american consuls are from windows 58 to windows 67.
He is very friendly, in his mid 40s i guess. He asked me to take an oath, raise my right hand and read the oath which is posted near his glass window. Then he asked me to put my four fingers of my right hand in the fingerprint reader.

He only had a few questions:
My complete name
Petitioner's name
How many times did you meet
Where is he living in California?
What are your wedding plans
Why am i not travelling with my sons
What is my business and where is it located
What countries have i visited

I think it only took me 5 to 7 mins.

The he said your visa is approved! Yay! I was so happy and my tears are about to fall however, I was infront of a lot of people waiting for their turn so I need to control my tears...

I thought the consul won't tell me if it is approved or not since I've asked some applicants and said they were not informed. I was prepared to ask if he won't tell me, luckily he did.

Last call: a filipino guy verified my address, again ask me how about my sons, and if i am just a tourist with the 3 countries I have visited. Then he asked me to move to the window for 2go delivery. Before I left, I asked him how long will i wait for the visa to be delivered but he said he doesn't have the information.

I gave the lady in 2go, the form with the sticker number and she said I'm all done. I have filled out the form already while waiting so I just hand her the form.

Goodluck to all and I hope the information helped somehow.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
