Hey! So my fiance and I had an interview at the consulate in Haiti this week. Many people were denied or were told to come back with more proof (blood tests for family based petitions, more photos for married couples, etc).
Here's how our interview went....
We arrived at 6 am and didn't actually get interviewed until 9:45 am. We were done by 10:45 am. We walked in, went through security, and sat down. We went to the first window and my fiance submitted more pictures. She gave us back many documents (I-134 duplicate paperwork, his birth certificate, etc) and we took a seat. We were called to a second window and she took his fingerprints. We were finally called to the third window. The gentleman asked my fiance his name and made him take an oath. Then he asked if I was his fiance. I said yes. He told me he was going to ask my fiance a few questions and he wanted me to take a seat, so I did. He was a friendly man and my fiance said the consular officer felt like an old friend that was just catching up after a long time apart. He said he was easy to talk to and didn't try to trick him (another consular officer was asking very tricky questions).
He asked:
-How we met
-How we communicate (yahoo, facebook, texts, calls, skype, etc)
-When we got engaged
-Why we were getting married in the USA
-If his mother was in the USA
-If his mother was going to the wedding in the USA
-What were his plans upon entering the USA (school/work?)
-If he had met my family
-How many brothers and sisters I had and what my order was in the family (first child, second, third, youngest, etc)
-What I do for a living/where I work
-Where he was going to live in the USA/my current living arrangements
My fiance tried to submit even more proof and the CO said, "no, we're fine." So my fiance kept the additional proof.
After all of that, he said, "I'm going to give you the visa. Go pay Haiti Messenger" so we did.
Word of advice- if you're appointment is early (7 am, when the doors open) there will be a line already formed by 5 am. We saw many people get kicked out of line because their appointment was at 8:30 am and they were in line at 6:30. So... don't show up too early if your appointment is after 7. If it's at 7, be there early.
We had a good experience. We were nervous, but it went well.
Now we're waiting for the visa and his passport.
I would rate this consulate as a 3. They have AWFUL customer service and CIVA hung up on me more times than I could count, but.... after going to the embassy, I can see why they have awful service. There were HUNDREDS of people who had appointments at the consulate the day we went, so... I imagine it's difficult managing all of those cases. |

Timeline Comments: None yet, be the first!
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
