Consulate Review: London, United Kingdom
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : September 27, 2013
Embassy Review : My husband and I left for his 8 am interview around 5:00 am. Got on the train at 5:30, got to London by 6:30 and were outside the Embassy by 7:15 a.m.

At this point there were already quite a few people outside (15-20). We got in the back of the line and at 7:30 they started letting people through security. We were given a bag to put our belongings (coins, belts, watches) and carry through. They also had several people checking periodically and asking if anyone had car keys/cell phones/ ect... and that they would have to get out of the line and check them in down the street at Goulds. At around 7:40 we were admitted in past security and stood in line at a counter waiting to get our ticket number assigned. We were the third immigrant visa in line, among many non-immigrants. Once we got into the waiting room, it took them about 5-10 mins to warm up the system and start calling out numbers. Once they did, our number was called within minutes and by 8 am, we were at the first window.

We were greeted by a very friendly American man, who asked for the following:

2x passport photos (he asked him to print his name on the back of both)
Passport (husband)
Police Certificate (husband)
Birth Certificate (husband)
Divorce Decree (previous husband's marriage)
Marriage Certificate
I864's (mine and my mother's, she was his co-sponsor)
Bank Statements/Birth Certificate (co-sponsor)
Joint Bank Statements (mine and husband)
Asset Proof (mine)

After checking my I864, then my mother's, he handed me back my asset proof and told me they weren't needed. Along with my bank statements (all except one months worth).
He also only took one month for my mother's as well, and never asked for anything in the area of domicile (although this may be because I still have residence there and it's blatantly shown on several documents.

He didn't need to look at hardly anything of mine. No birth certificate, no passport, nothing. Just my I864 and accompanying support documents.

He gave us a receipt, asked us to go the window right next door, pay and come back. We did, and gave him the receipt. He gave us back our copy and told us we would be called again by the same ticket number, shortly.

We went back to sit down and saw several other immigrant visa people visibly upset and aggitated, which put our nerves on edge. Hoping that we didn't get an unpleasant person for the interview.

After about 20 mins, we were called to the interview window and met with the nicest African American lady!

She asked my husband all of five questions:
"How did you two meet?"
"When did you meet?"
"How did you Propose?"
"Does your wife have any siblings? If so, how many?"
"Have you met her parents?"

After answering the last question, she gave us a big smile and told us we were approved. She laughed a bit at me for yelling "YES!" a little too loudly, from excitement. She told us that we should expect our passport back within 10 days!

All in all, everyone we met who worked there was very nice and friendly, and it's definitely not as scary as we thought it was going to be! Very quick and easy!
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
