We stayed at the new Marriott Courtyard in Montreal and I was immediately happy I had chosen this hotel since I could see the consulate across the street and half a block up the street right from our hotel room which helped to relax me. The hotel was a little pricy at $160+tax and $24 for parking, but the room was beautiful and the concierge was very helpful and check out isn't until noon so I left my stuff in my room to go back to after our appointment. We took a short walk to verify the location and where to stand and everything was just like Saylin's pictures of the exterior.
In the morning, my 13 year old daughter and I got to the consulate at 6:40 and were second in line. Most everyone else there had their fiancé or spouse with them. I prepped my daughter a little bit as to what to expect and where to sit and stand with the hopes of getting out of there most efficiently. The doors opened at 7:30 and we were asked for our passports and letter then let in the doors where a lady put a sticker with our Loomis reference number into our passports and then directed us to wait at the next doors until security called us forward. We were asked to empty our coat pockets and then take them off and put everything into a bin. Those were scanned and then we were asked to go through the detector. I tend to eat peppermints when I'm nervous since it calms my stomach, but they confiscated my pocketful (after asking if i was diabetic) since they counted as food lol. I was given a number to pick them up when I left. We then went down the long flight of stairs to the elevator waiting room. The chairs are no longer set up the same as Saylin's diagram here, but that doesn't really matter, all we needed to know is to sit as close to the elevators as possible. We giggled with the first couple in line when we saw people sitting in back rows or far from the elevator doors since they also knew the visa journey tips. The elevator was opened at 8 and the four of us shuffled to the right spot followed by another VJer who joined us in the right area. The others in the elevator didn't seem to understand why we were facing the back wall of the elevator lol. Out of the elevator the set up on the 19th floor seems very different from Saylin's map but we all got the hang of it. We turned left and around the side of the elevator to the 14A/B window and told them what we were there for (K1&K2 visa for us) and got number C2. I told my daughter it really didn't matter about C1-C4 since there were 4 windows so everyone would go up around the same time. We waited about 10 minutes and our number was called first. The lady was very pleasant and asked for only: passports for myself and my daughter, medical results for myself and my dauhter, birth certificates for myself and my daughter, police check for me only, my divorce certificate, I-134 and taxes and letter of intent from my fiancé. I then asked if she needed custody documents and she thanked me for reminding her. I presented my separation agreement with details of sole custody as well as a letter from my ex husband indicating that he supported the move. Fingerprints were taken then she double checked that she had everything and we were then directed to sit down and wait for the interview. I had brought so many documents and forms, but they already had most of it from my previous submissions so bring them, but don't be surprised if they only take a few things.
While we were waiting I realized they did not ask for our set of pictures. About 15 minutes later we were called to the interview room down the hall. I expected to be sitting at a table, but we stood at a plexiglass covered window with the interviewer seated othe other side typing on a computer. He was having an issue brining up my electronic file at first which freaked me out, but then he tried re-typing the barcode number and it came up fine (it had just been a typo the first time- thank goodness because otherwise I was going to have to fill out some of my electronic documents again). I then had to do fingerprints for verifications twice for both myself and to open my daughter's file as well. Then I mentioned that she had not taken my pictures, but he double checked and I guess they had just used the ones that had been sent with the previous forums and everything was fine. He then verified the documents and returned originals. He told me to have my custody documents available at the POE. He asked me whee we met, how we keep in touch, how often we see each other, where the first place we met was, when the wedding would be and if it would be abig wedding. He asked what my fiancé did for a living and what I do here in Canada. He then said he was approving the visa and mentioned the $165 fee that would have to be paid before we crossed into the US. I asked if it would be 2 fees for my daughter and I and was told that it was one case, so only one fee. I was surprised that my daughter was not asked any questions at all, I had expected them to ask her about her father or if she got along with my fiancé and his kids or something, but nope, she just stood there looking pretty. We were presented with our Welcome to the USA letter and thanked him very much. It's been a long journey and we were smiling ear to ear and so happy to finally be able to move and start our new lives. We went back to the elevator and went downstairs hugging, trying hard not to jump up and down from excitement. I collected my mints and we were out of there around 9am |

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
