Finally, I could get approval of AOS from F1 and receive the temporary GC. However, my interview experience was so horrible. Generally speaking, it's not arrogant my opinion, I had never heard the story that Japanese peoples are denied or having a trouble of GC interview. Just in case, I have applied all of my AOS process using lawyer, and he joined to our interview together. As a result, our success key was taking our lawyer to our interview. If we took an interview just two of us, we must be denied.
Our interviewer, the officer was a guy, he was a really horrible person. Our mutual accounts are only a checking account which we opened two weeks previous of the interview. Therefore, as our lawyer's advice, we prepared many our photos & album including each other's family and 3 letters to prove our 5 years serious relationship living together in the same place from our mutual friends who are native English peoples having reliable job. I didn't need a translator because I thought my English was okay, but the officer's English was blur, it's very difficult for me to get his English. From the beginning of our interview, he told us we are doubtful. In our interview, he tried giving us a paper test which were old school questions kind of like a movie of Green Card, and he gave us some questions like blaming us that why we needed to take a time for 5 years to decide a marriage, why we couldn't open mutual banking account earlier despite we have been in same house for 5 years, why we don't have any other mutual things; contract of rent, life insurance or etc…
Our lawyer was quiet mean while, but finally, he got upset with the officer's awful attitude. He told him that he has never such an experience in his immigrant lawyer career and we are not doubtful couple.
After then, he changed his attitude a little easier because he looked so a little being afraid of sued from our lawyer. however, he didn't give any decision and told us that he still needs investigation about us. After the interview, I could get the approval notice in 4 days later, but we had to spent 4 days having big depression and anxiousness.
According to another lawyer is a friend of my lawyer, our officer was a famous bad guy among the lawyers in NYC. We heard some couple's story that they took the same officer's interview, they couldn't get his decision about 6 months.
I wrote a long our bad experience, but as my opinion, I strongly recommend you to take a lawyer and a translator to your interview if you are not native English speaker. |

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
