The interview went nice, it only took us 30 minutes, i thought that they would ask us about how we got married and how we live as a marriage couple, the reception, the ceremony. None of these questions came out, they concentrated on how we met, when we got in a relationship, when we got married, the interviewer even took a note of my friend's name who introduced my husband to me. I didnt expect that, i should tell my friend about her name being noted in my file case, haha. Overall, the interview was painless and quick, just relax and be honest, it was kind of reminiscing our story in front someone :) |

My K1 visa interview was scheduled September 10, 2013 at 12:30 PM. I arrived at 12:05, I showed my appointment email print out to the guard but there wasn’t my name on the list. He asked me whether it’s an immigrant or non immigrant visa, I wasn’t sure so I said K1 visa and apparently it’s considered as an immigrant visa. I had to wait standing around 20 minutes in front of the gate, it wasn’t so bad. Then the security guard asked all of the people waiting to prepare our passports in hand, turn off our cell phones and he gave out each of us a tray to put our cell phone, ear phone, any electronic device, stapler, nail clipper. He let all of us in, scanned my bag, gave me a name tag and a card to pick up my stuffs.
I went inside the consulate office. Since there was a pretty long queue the consular lady also opened window 7, besides window 5 as mentioned in packet 4. She scanned through my documents so fast, I was kind of nervous at this point as some VJers talked about this particular lady. I didn’t care if she was friendly or not, I just hoped she didn’t give a hard time. Luckily she didn’t, I put my documents in stacking order as indicated in packet 3, I signed DS-156, bring all the copies needed. Then she wanted me to sign DS-156 and DS-230 (tips: bring a pen in your pocket). Then she returned all of the original documents including the x ray result from clinic (they didn’t need it, I confirmed it with the interviewer) and my proof of relationship. She asked me to make a payment at window 6, and this is the part when I want to bang my head against the wall, I was short of money (thanks for the increased rate). They charged me 2.88 million in rupiah and I was short 100 thousand (I should’ve had extra money with me, I know). So I went out and asked the security guard where the closest atm around there, they were very helpful, thumbs up. It took me 15 minutes to get back inside again.
I waited for a while then the interviewer called me to come in to window 1. I took an oath and got my finger print scanned (tips: wash your hands, don’t apply any lotion or eat greasy meals with your hands). He asked me some basic questions, I prepared for worse than that. He asked:
• What’s your fiancé's name?
• How and when did you meet?
• When was the last time you saw your fiancé?
• What is his job? How much does he earn per year?
• Where does he live? An apartment or a house?
• How long has he lived in the US?
• How did he become a citizen of the US?
• How do you usually contact with each other?
The interview went very well and he gave me a white slip to pick up my k1 visa in the next 3 days. I left the embassy at 01:50 PM.
Thank you all fellow Vjers for your very kind support, informative tips and suggestions.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
