Hasan has entered the US twice in the last 9 months (once when he arrived on his K1 visa and again when he traveled to Turkey on Advance Parole). Both times he was pulled into a separate room for interrogation. Not really sure why, but he said they were mildly aggressive both times, making accusations and questioning the validity of our marriage. I did not travel to Turkey with him because it was for a family emergency (not to mention we don't have an extra $900 to spend on another plane ticket) and the officer thought that was reason for concern. He had all the proper documentation he needed and was clear in the system.
UPDATE 6/21/16: He has traveled to Turkey twice since that time and both times he had no issues reentering; no separate interrogation required. Guess it gets better with time (and a green card). |

USPS lost his EAD/Advance Parole Card in the mail on 4/4/14 and would not reissue a new one. Decided to wait for his Green Card since applying for a new EAD/AP card would take longer than simply receiving the GC :-/ |

Lost in the mail. Paid $360 to "refile" and get an emergency approval on a "new" AP document so that Hasan could go see his ill mother and his family after a cousin passed away. |

My now-husband had his interview back in July, but I'm just now getting to a review (apologies!)
Hasan got to the Consulate about an hour early. Lucky for him he has family that live near Ankara (he is from Istanbul) so transportation and lodging were not a problem. He left his phone with his cousin as electronic devices of any kind are not allowed (be mindful of this! They can turn you away if you have a cell phone, tablet, etc.)
They let him in, he went through security, and waited about an hour and a half for his interview. Upon being called, the woman asked if he would like to do the interview in Turkish or English. Hasan chose Turkish (it is his native language, so he felt most comfortable) but the woman proceeded to speak in English anyways, which was fine. She asked pretty straight-forward questions about how we met, how his family felt about me, how we got engaged, had I ever visited him in Turkey, etc.) Everything went very smoothly and the woman was very nice. Unfortunately he did have to await results for a TB test before they could issue his visa, but the consular officer assured him it would not be a problem (aside from the waiting) and his visa was approved.
Overall painless experience for a very painful 9 month journey! |

Timeline Comments: None yet, be the first!
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
