Event Description

Embassy Review : My interview was scheduled on January 9, 2014. I will write is as I remember it because I was so nervous so my body just do whatever m brain was told to do. Here is my experience. My fiance was there to accompany me

We arrived at the embassy at 8.20am. We walked from my uncle's house to the embassy which is not far at all. It took us 15 minutes to get there.

Once we get there, there was a guard waiting outside and he directed me to a window to get my visitor's pass. I showed him my interview letter and I gave him my MyKad. My fiance was not allowed in at this point. He stamped a "B" on my letter and gave the letter along with a visitor's pass to me. The "B" is the letter that you should press when getting your queue number.

After I get the pass, I went through the door for scanning. They will scan your stuff, this time, I left all my stuff with my fiance and only took what's important with me. I put my stuff for scanning and went through the body scanning. Then, I picked my stuff and went outside that scanning room to the main building.

The guard inside asked me to take an "A" number. I double checked and ask him again that this is for the Fiancee visa. He said yes. SO, I followed the instruction. He directed me to the waiting room on the right. My number was called, A034 to counter 1. I looked around and wonder where my counter is and why do they call my number so fast when the guy outside told me that they will only collect my document at 9am. I saw people coming in waiting room and wonder where did they come from. Apparently, the room with the counters is on the left so I have to walk back and forth from one room to another.

My number got called 5 times before I finally realised that I went to the counter assigned and the lady scolded me because I was not paying attention. I do pay attention, I just didn't know what to do. SHe looked through my documents and told me that I got the wrong number, I should pressed "B" instead as indicated in my appointment letter. Really not my fault!

Then, I went outside again to take another number and the guard who gave me the wrong instruction asked me why do I take the number again. BECAUSE IT'S WRONG! By that time, it was about 8.35am. Then I waited until 9am sharp before my number was called B400 to counter 7 to submit my documents. I was the first one for B number so that's good.

I went to the counter and the lady asked me to take out all my documents. I gave her the whole file with my forms and she said, "take out, I don't need the folder." There was a file already opened. It's VERY thick. I gave her a bunch of stuff, but the only thing that she took was my passport, one photo, birth certificate, original and copy. I got the new one and did not get it translated. DS-160 confirmation page, Police certificate, i-134 (together with 2012 tax return and letter from employer, food stamp form, and another form that asked which countries have I been to in the last 10 years.

After that (20 mins wait), they asked me to wait to pay the Visa fee ($240 or RM792). My fiance was supposed to come in with me to pay for it and I was short of RM15! So I asked them if I can pay later and they said yes.

I was out at about 9.40am. Me and fiance went and eat breakfast. I couldn't eat much because my stomach don't feel so good (NERVOUS!). Then we walked back to get a nap.

*****AFTERNOON SESSION*****

My interview was schedule at 1.30PM but we got there at 12.30PM because my fiance insist that we get there early. We took at taxi because it was too hot to walk, we reached the embassy in under 1 minute. We were not allowed in until 1.10PM. This time, my fiance gets to get in with me. we went through the whole security thing again and they asked me to take off my shoes! Hmph! discrimination! They didn't ask my fiance to take off his!

We went in and immediately, I saw my number called to the cashier's counter (Counter 10) and then we paid. 5 minutes later, they called me to counter 3 to get my biometrics print. 5 minutes after that, my number was called for the FINAL INTERVIEW! My fiance came in the room with me but he was asked to wait outside. She asked me to take an oath and then sign my oath with my fingerprints. Then, she gave me a set of documents on "Information on the legal rights available to immigrant victims of domestic violence in the United States and facts about immigrating on a marriage-based visa". She also asked me to fill in intent to marry form. She gave me back my original birth certificate and then the questioning began.

The American lady asked me a bunch of questions. These are all that I can remember.
- how did you meet your fiance?
- did you get romantically involved then?
- So, when did you get romantically involved?
- when did you next see your fiance? She asked this 3 or 4 times.
- One of the places that we have been to was Hong Kong so she asked if I have the pictures with me but I don't have it, so, I told her I only have pictures from after we submitted the petition and she said it's fine. She looked at them one by one and commented on some and asked what was going on in the picture. She was very nice and friendly.
- How many siblings does your fiance have?
- Where do they live?
- How long have he been employed there?
- When is the wedding date and where?
- When did he proposed?

That is all I can remember,... then she asked me to wait for my number to be called again and told me that they will then give me the instructions on how to get my visa. Meaning, WE ARE APPROVED!!!! After another 5 minutes, we got called to counter 9 to get a slip that tells us where to get my visa, which will be on January 13, 2pm, at the embassy. They asked me when is my flight going back, they could do it the next day but they are having some problems with the system. I'm going to fly back on the 14th of January so everything is going according to plan!

We were out by 1.45PM. That was really quick and I was lucky because I got the first number! There were only a few of us in the afternoon, around 7 people.

I hope this helps and PM me if you have any questions! Good luck future applicants!!

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
