Event Description

Embassy Review : So I arrived at Grosvenor Square at about 8am and there was a big queue outside the building. I couldn't see any other way of getting in or any other queues so I just assumed I had to join this one. So I did and I was listening to the conversations of other people in the queue, some guys behind me were there for a Visa Waiver and they did nothing but complain about how they had to wait in a queue and how it was really unorganised- even though it wasn't. Some woman in uniform came down the queue asking to see specific things- she asked the guy infront of me for form DS-160, but when she came to me she glanced at my invitation envelope and only wanted to see the date and time on it to make sure I had the right day. "Yep today is the 24th, that's all ok then". You have to put your metal stuff in a plastic bag before you go in, men were taking off their belts and stuff. Before you go through security, you have to show your passport and invitation letter to a security guard and then he'll direct you into the security room. You basically put your bag, folder, metal stuff, jacket in a little plastic tray (like in airport security) and walk through a machine so they scan your body, and when that's all done, you get let out a door and there are signs to where you need to go- its really well laid out so you don't get lost. And there's officers everywhere to guide you and answer your questions and they're all really smiley and friendly.
Once I went up the steps into the building I was at a reception desk- there was a little queue for this too, and when I got to the receptionist they asked to see my invitation letter, passport and MRV Fee Recipt? I think? Then they put this sticker on my invitation letter with a number on it (I908) and told me to go sit in the waiting room, which is a long room with loads of chairs and a TV screen at the front with a chart of all the numbers that are currently being served and yellow flashing notices of the numbers that are being called to the booths. There's numbered booths all down the side of the room with microphones (like a big bank building) and there's some more round the corner. (Both my interviews were round the corner so it was nice and quiet and private). After about 10-15 minutes my number was called for the first time, I went to see an English officer- very polite, friendly and well spoken. He had another officer with him who he was talking through the whole process so I think he was teaching him, using my case as an example. He checked through my folder which he had open on the desk infront of him, it had all the forms I'd previously sent in, my medical record and exam results etc- he was talking through the other officer about my medical record because of the attempted suicide incident, and I overheard him explain "the doctor has written that this is not an occurring problem and that she is perfectly healthy now and has no worries that it will repeat so that's all ok" (to which I felt relieved) And then he asked to see my invitation letter, passport, birth certificate and copy, police certificate and copy, he kept my passport and the copies of the birth + police certificates and then asked to see my affidavit of support. I said 'I have 2 I-134 forms for my fiance and the co-sponsor' so he said 'yep that's fine' so I gave them both in, which he kept.
Then he said "do you have any supporting evidence for this?" So I explained "yeah, a lot. which stuff do you want?" I passed loads of evidence examples through the window such as tax returns, IRS forms, work letters, pay slips, bank statements etc. He gave back Adam's tax return and said "we don't need to see this; he doesn't earn enough money, can I ask for all of Jane's supporting evidence and none of Adam's?" So I said "yep that's fine", and gave him all of Jane's stuff and he said "ok that's lovely, that's everything I need" and he gave me a pink form to fill out and told me to go and sit down again and wait for my number to be called. I waited for what felt like 30-40 minutes and I was called again and this time I was being interviewed by a nice young American man- very friendly, smiley and polite. He asked first of all "how are you" so I said "I'm great thank you how are you" so he said he was great too, and then asked "ok so how did you meet Adam?" so I said "we met on an online game called IMVU" and he said "what year was that?" so I said "umm 2006 I think" and then he asked "when did you meet for the first time?" So I said "in July 2010" and he asked "where was that?" so I said "he flew into Heathrow airport in London so that was the first time I ever saw him" (I was smiling and blushing when he was asking me these questions and he noticed so he was smiling too) then he asked "how many times have you been with Adam" so I said "2 times" and then remembered that it was actually 3 so I said "no it was 3 times! 3 times!" and he said "yeah you were in America just this January weren't you?" so I said "yes I was" and he asked "how long did you spend there" so I said "a month" and he asked "what's the longest amount of time you've spent together in one holiday" so I said "a month, somewhere between 4-5 weeks". He was taking notes as he was questioning me and looked up at me at one point smiling and said "don't mind me, I'm just taking some notes" so I said "that's fine, jot away!". And then when he was happy with everything he was smiling again and said "ok Joanne I see no problems here, I'm glad to tell you that your visa has been approved!" so obviously the smile on my face grew from just an average smile to a massive Cheshire cat smile and I guess my reaction made him laugh cause he was laughing then once I calmed down he said 'you need to take your pink form to the desk at the back of the waiting room and select how you want your visa delivered to you' so I said 'thank you so much!!' and went to go visit the courier desk. The woman at this desk said congratulations as soon as I approached cause she could see the huge smile on my face and she talked me through my options and everything so I chose for the fastest and earliest delivery because earlier the English officer had explained to his trainee that I had to leave the country before 18th July because that's when my petition expires or something like that. So I made the payment (only £35 which I wasn't disappointed with because I chose the fastest option) and she said "you can expect your visa to arrive within 5 days" so I said "what day exactly can I expect it" and she looked at me with a smile and said confidently "Friday!" so I assumed that I'm most likely to get it on Friday but people on this website say take that with a pinch of salt, so I won't be disappointed too much if it doesn't get here Friday. I'm planning to leave the country next week on the 3rd so I can be there for the 4th July.
Overall it was a really great interview and it ran so smoothly and quickly- I had booked my coach home for 3.30pm and I was out of the Embassy by 10am so I had all that time to kill. Looked around shops, went to Starbucks for a drink + subway for something to eat blah blah blah. javascript:emoticon('')

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
