Embassy Review : |
(BACKGROUND) I (USC) have been living in country with fiance for the past 4 years.
I (the USC petitioner) arrived at the embassy at with my fiance at 7:15. I had read that USC cannot enter until 8:30 so I was expecting to be sent away but they allowed me to enter with him. We gave our appointment letter to the receptionist and were told to be seated. After 10 minutes they called us up to a window where a woman DESTROYED my neatly organized binder by ripping out only the docs she wanted (birth cert, i-134, pictures, ds 156 and 156k) and then gave it back to me. All that work spent organizing and filing only to be torn apart in 2 minutes by a rude lady... She told us to pay the cashier, but it was 730 and the cashier didn't open until 8.
We waited another 10 minutes and were called back to another window where my fiance's fingerprints were taken.
By 8:30 the cashier was open and we paid the fee ($240= GHS 528!!!) Many people did not anticipate the high exchange rate and were short money. So make sure you bring MORE than enough money!!!
We then waited maybe 45 minutes and were called to another window. This was for the actual interview. I went to the window with my fiance but was told by the consular officer to take a seat and he would call me if he needed me.
Fiance talked to the guy for maybe 5 minutes. He was asked a few questions:
where did you meet
how long have you known each other
where was your first date
have you travelled to the usa (he has)
where did you stay in usa
what did you do there
Then he said he believes our relationship is genuine and we are approved. He gave him a blue paper and said to come pick up the visa on friday.
That was it! So simple. I was a bit annoyed because a) i wasn't allowed to stay during interview and b) all that time i spent preparing documents was for nothing!
But we are very happy and overall the experience was great! |

Timeline Comments: None yet, be the first!
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
