Consulate Review: Moscow, Russia
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : January 2, 2014
Embassy Review : Quick and easy interview. Get in there to 7:30 am, as there will be a good length line of people waiting already. First, give your passport to a security officer to check and wait at the same point in line for the officer to return it to you.
Do not bring any electronic devices, watches included, as they will not be allowed for storage inside the Consulate.
Next, go to the little white door and in to the Consulate section of the Embassy. Your passport and interview appointment print out from ustraveldocs website will be checked again. Proceed to 2 security checks - first a nice lady and then an X-Ray machine with security men.

Get in line to one of 3 windows and give in your passport, interview appointment letter and any requested forms to the window. You then will be directed to the Immigration section of the consulate.

The wait is approximately 10-20 min there (there's a hall with comfortable chairs, toilet rooms and water fountain, no clocks on walls and a bit of anxiety inside ) for the 1st officer to call you by name and check your documents. I can only assume that's the time you let them know if you filled any forms incorrectly etc.
They will gather your forms requesting one by one (get them ready while waiting) and put inside a folder with your case. The lady will ask you to go to another section of consulate (downstairs) for fingerprints. You'll see there's a lot of people in there, you can go without waiting in line as they are all waiting to different windows.

Next, you get back to the lady with papers, give your passport to her and wait for 1-1.5 hrs. Get a book or smth to shorten your waiting time but don't go to the toilet or anywhere else for a long period of time as you could be called for an interview!

Later, you get an Immigration Officer calling you by name - I had a nice US lady. She asked if I speak English, I said - yes and she seemed to be very happy that we could continue speaking English

She asked simple enough questions that you will pass in no time and easily if you have sincere and genuine relationship and know your fiance well enough - like where does he live, how do you call him, how did you meet, what is yours/his occupation.

I took in print outs from FB, Skype accounts, originals of any connection that we had between us - letters, hotel receipts, photos from meetings etc. Most likely they will ask only for photos, which she did
I think I did go into too much detail answering on how we met. It was a memorable story for us, so I enjoyed talking about it Seems like the lady at the window was satisfied with my answer

I think that best way is to find any online questions for the interview and practice answering them in English and Russian (as they could switch from one language to another). If you know your fiance well, that won't be a problem but extra practice won't hurt and boost your confidence.
Don't be cooky or shy, just plain, quite confidence and politeness and you'll be fine.

Best of luck to all passing the interviews! Don't be afraid! You'll be with your loved one soon!
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
