Appointment time: 7:30 A.M.
5:40 – arrived at the embassy
6:45 – the embassy staff told us (k1 visa applicants) to form two lines.
While falling in line, the lady wearing blue shirt instructed us to prepare the following:
- Passport
- Appointment confirmation
- DS 156 (2 copies)
- DS 157 (2 copies)
- DS 156K (1 copy)
7:10 – I entered the embassy to get my number that will be used for the whole process. After getting my lucky number, I went straight to the waiting area to double-check my DS forms and then after that, I handed the forms to the staff so she can drop the forms to window 39.
8:50 – My number flashed for biometrics. I was asked for my complete name and date of birth.
9:10 – Interview with the Filipino consul. He asked me the following:
How old is your fiancé?
How old are you?
Are the stamps in your passport for travel purposes only?
When and how did you meet your fiancé?
How many times did he visit you here?
When was his last visit?
You don’t need an interpreter anymore, right?
11:00 – Interview with the American consul. ** I AM DEAD NERVOUS ** While I was walking to window 64, there were a lot of things in my mind. I was so paranoid that the consul might question our relationship given that I am related to my fiancé. And I was already in the process of accepting that I’ll get denied. Haha. I even thought of just simply running away O_O but no, I didn’t do that of course. I had no choice but to continue with the process and see what happens after that. If the result of my interview would turn out bad, then I’ll deal with it later. –inhale, exhale-
Me: Hi. Good morning!
Consul: Oh hi! Good morning, Ma’am!
Me: * smiled at him *
*** I took an oath ***
Consul: So your fiancé is related to you?
Me: Yes
Consul: How are you related?
Me: He is my 5th degree relative. We are first cousins once removed.
Consul: Can you explain that to me?
Me: Well, he is my mother’s first cousin.
Consul: Oh okay. So the last time you saw each other was in 2011?
Me: No. He actually visited me last April 2012 then went back May of this year.
Consul: Okay. Haha. Sorry.
Me: That’s okay. * smiled *
Consul: Are you with your fiancé during your trips to other countries?
Me: Yes
Consul: How long have you been romantically involved with each other?
Me: 6 years.
Consul: Can you tell me something about your wedding plan?
Me: ** STORY **
Consul: And who are the guests?
Me: My fiancé’s close friends and officemates.
Consul: From what state is your fiancé again?
Me: Colorado
Consul: Oh okay. So… Your case is different. But I don’t see any reason for me not to approve your visa application.
Me: * just looking at him and couldn’t speak *
Consul: * giving me the brochure and explaining to me its content *
Me: * still speechless *
Consul: You may go back to your seat and wait for your number to flash again for final instructions.
Me: * I just kept staring at him and I couldn’t move. SERIOUSLY! Haha *
Consul: * looking at me *
Me: Okay. Thank you.
Consul: You’re welcome, Ma’am.
Me: * staring at him again *
Consul: * smiling at me *
Me: Thank you so much, sir.
Consul: Okay. You’re welcome, Ma’am.
I went back to my seat and my embassy friends asked me what happened. I told them that I got approved and they were so happy. After that, they asked me what the questions were and I shared it with them so they’d have an idea.
I was so shocked and couldn’t believe that was happening to me. I was so happy. Very happy! Praise the Lord!
11:05 – The lady in window 72 called my name. She gave me back my appointment confirmation.
I1:15 – Me and my two embassy friends went out of the building with a big big smile. THANK YOU SO MUCH, GOD!
