Consulate Review: France
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : July 26, 2014
Embassy Review : I arrived half an hour earlier, but we were not allowed in before 12.55. The guards were nice, they took my phone, headphones, keys, and asthma inhaler. I asked if I could keep my inhaler just in case and he gave it back to me.
I took a ticket, sat down and... waited. Bring something to read if you don't want to get bored! At the first desk the French lady took my interview letter. At the second desk, another French lady asked me some question (address, phone number...) and she asked for the DS 260 confirmation. She then warned me that they were experiencing worldwide computer problems coming from DC and that if they can't access my DS 260 I might have to come back a week later. She tried to reassure me and was very nice, said that right now it was still loading but she wanted me to be psychologically prepared! She then took my updated documents (birth certificate, marriage certificate, police record), the Chronopost envelope, she asked if I wanted to replace the photo they already had. I gave them the update I-864 from the joint sponsor (with the 2013 irs transcripts) event though she didn't ask for it. When I gave it to her, she said "oh right it wasn't updated". She explained to me that the next person I'll see will ask me personal questions about my couple. She took my fingerprints. And then said "well the ds-260 is not here yet, I'm going to reboot and see if it works, it's time to pray!". Then we talked a little bit while waiting, and right before she was about to give up it worked. Never been this relieved! I went back to my seat and was called half an hour later. The CO was young, and seemed nice. She asked me to swear I told the truth and I will again today. She took my fingerprints. And then asked me how and when I met my husband (he's my brother's friend), she asked how my brother and him met. I didn't give lots of details, I figured she'd ask if she wasn't convinced. She asked when was the last time I saw him (it was a month and a half ago), she then looled at the pictures we sent with the I-130, she pointed an engagement picture and asked when was it taken. On a group pictures (with friends, siblings and husband) she pointed my brother and asked me who it was. Sshe asked if it was for both our first marriages (yes), asked when we got married, if we had children (no), she then said "congratulations, you are approved , you'll receive your visa in 10 business days maximum, please don't book any flight as we are having some computer problems that may delay the visa issuance".
Everything was in French, I had some trouble understanding the CO's french from time to time, but it was all good. I stayed 2 hours in the embassy and the interview took 3 minutes!
Don't forget you belongings on your way out!
To summarize, everything went well and it wasn't as stressful as I thought it was going to be.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
