Comments : Packet was not tracked or chased while at NVC as the USCIS website never updated to show it had been sent to NVC. Letter from London showed up well within the timescale we expected just the same. Visa approved on 23rd October, but as I couldn't leave my passport with them that day as I was flying out to Germany on 24th, passport returned to the embassy on 30th October by Special Delivery.

Embassy Review : My appointment was for 9am on 23rd October. I arrived at the Embassy at around 8.15 after leaving my phone at Goulds. As I had travelled to London the previous day and was flying out to Germany the next day, everything else had been left at the hotel. I was very nervous going into the Embassy because I had previously had 3 visitor visa refusals. I received my I number and sat down to wait for my number to be called. It seemed that most of the I cases were at the first window for around 20 minutes, so I was able to work out that I would have a wait of about 1-1.5 hours before I was called to the first window. Once my number was called, I went to the window and was greeted by a friendly male officer. He took my fingerprints and asked for my passport - at this point I explained that I was not able to leave my passport with them that day because I was travelling on the 24th, but that I would return it to them as soon as I was back in the UK on the 30th. He said that was fine and to mention it at the interview window so that I was given my passport back before leaving the Embassy. He went and got my paperwork - I knew that between us, my fiance and I had prepared a lot of evidence, but hadn't realised exactly how much it was until I saw the size of the file he was holding! I had all my paperwork in order ready to hand to him and was able to give him everything he needed within a few minutes as well as confirming my preferred travel dates to him. While he was taking my paperwork, he chatted about how I had met my fiance. I would say I was at the first window for only a maximum of maybe 5 minutes before being told to take a seat back in the waiting area and wait for my number to be called again after he passed my file to the interviewing officer. It appeared already at this point that this was going to be a very different and friendlier experience than applying for a visitor visa had been. I waited only a few minutes this time before being called to the second window for interview. This time the officer appeared to be more serious. He checked my fingerprints again and had me sign the form and take the oath. He then asked me only 4 questions - what my fiance does for a living, the approximate ages of his kids (I found out later I got them right even though I had said I might be off by a year on any of them as I wasn't sure of their exact birthdays), why we had waited before filing the petition (we had been together for about 2 years before filing), and why the US not the UK. He then explained that although he was approving my visa, he would have to give me the blue form that says they can't approve it today because I couldn't leave my passport with them. He gave me all the details of what to do once I got back to the UK on the 30th to return the blue form, passport and the printout of the courier payment for home delivery. I told him that I wasn't worried about being given the form as long as I could tell my fiance we were definitely approved. He confirmed that I was and that I could confirm that to my fiance. I left the Embassy and went straight back to Goulds to get my phone back and call my fiance with the good news!

POE Review: Seattle
Event Description
Entry Date : 2013-11-15
Embassy Review : I was met from the plane by an officer from CDC because I had traveled with my 2 cats in the cabin. She advised me that they needed to take the cats to their office and I could collect them after I had been processed. She showed me where I would be able to find them later and that she would need to see their paperwork. The line for people entering on ESTA and Visas was long and seemed to move quite slowly and it was probably about an hour before I reached the front of the line - I couldn't tell an exact time as I was not allowed to check my phone and wasn't wearing a watch. The first official looked at my visa and checked that I had the packet with me, checked his computer then asked me what had happened before the K-1 was applied for (I had 3 visitor visa refusals on file because I had wanted to visit for more than 3 months but had been refused. After that first refusal, my ESTA was of course cancelled, and I was then refused visitor visas twice after that even to visit just for a couple of weeks to see some concerts that my favourite band were playing in 2012). He then handed me back my passport, the packet and my X-ray CD and called someone over to take me to the further processing area. Once I got there and handed over the paperwork, a friendly man came and checked my name then told me that my friend, who had flown over to help me bring the cats onto the plane, had collected my bags and the cats and was waiting for me downstairs. I was very glad of this as I had been worrying about the cats being with strangers for all this time and was grateful that he had told me. Fortunately, I had put each cat's paperwork in their carrier and had shown her this before we travelled so she was able to show the paperwork to CDC without problems. He then went and watched our bags for a few minutes so that my friend could come and let me know that my fiance was waiting outside for us and that she was going to take the cats and bags to him so the cats could get out of the airport and away from the stress of having so many people and so much noise around them. A couple of minutes after that, one of the officers asked me to follow him back to the main processing area so he could complete my paperwork. This took about 30 minutes at best guess, and he asked me only a couple of questions about where I was going to live, that I had brought my cats with me, and when we planned to marry. He then called over another officer and spoke with him for a few minutes about the fact that I had previous visa refusals. I was a little concerned at this point, although London had of course been fully aware of the previous refusals when they approved the visa. Following this, he stamped my passport and handed it back to me, telling me that I must marry within 90 days or leave the country. His colleague then directed me to the baggage claim area and told me 'Welcome to the USA'. I then went to find my fiance who, by then had started to worry about the length of time it was taking for me to be processed. In all, had I not been travelling with the cats which meant I was late getting into the line in the first place, I think I would have been through much quicker but aside from the queries about the visa refusals, the process was relatively quick and painless once I got to the first officer.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
