Consulate Review: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : January 27, 2014
Embassy Review : Upon arrival there are several different lines of people outside of the consulate. There will be people greeting you and instructing you which line to get into. Luckily, the line for the K1 Visa is very short. Anyhow, our appointment was for 9:20am but we go there at 6:55am. There was no need to come that early and we were instructed by a guy with a checklist to go to a cafe and relax because they would only allow the 7:20 reservations inside the consulate. Eventually, all the 9:20am people were called into the consulate at 8:30am. I would advise blowing past other couples when going up the stairs to the holding room because the first one through those doors will get to go first. This gentleman (same guy who had the checklist outside) speaks to everyone and then hands out forms. It does not matter who finishes the forms first. The first couple through the door and seated will be tended to first. This guy helps you organize the forms and then he notifies another guy at a window booth that you are ready to begin the administrative interview process. You proceed to a window and you must gives all the proper documents that the guy asks for. You will also be instructed to go downstairs and pay your fee and then you return to that same window and continue the process. When all the correct forms are given you are told to sit down and then wait until your name is called. Our name was called only 30 minutes later and a different guy at a different window booth interviewed us. Basic questions such as How did you meet, how has the relationship progessed, how did you propose and then he asked me a question on how I got into the country? He asked that question because the petitioner has to provide his passport biographical page and passport stamps. I gave them my whole passport. Anyhow, I told him I entered using my Italian passport and he laughed it off and said ok I got it now. The interview process literally lasted 4 to 5 minutes. So all in all we got there at 6:55am and were out of there by 10:30am. Oh by the way, expect your visa to arrive in around 10 working days so the consulate says
Rating : Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
