Embassy Review : |
Our interview was scheduled for Monday, 7/1/13. I flew in on 6/29 so I could be there for the interview too. We waited along with many other people and we were called up to the window. The woman explained that 2 additional documents needed to be completed and pointed us to a computer in the corner which had a printer. We completed the two forms and handed them in. (The forms had to do with his background, family of origin, places he'd lived, etc etc) We were then instructed to pay the fee at the window ($240) and then we waited some more. We were then called up to the window again and we were asked how we met and what kinds of foods I cook for him. He replied "gallo pinto" and added "she's a good cook". And that was IT for the interview! We were then informed that it was all done EXCEPT for one additional document which was still needed. This document, although already handed in, would verify that he was still single ("solitario"). Since almost a year had elapsed from the original filing, I guess they wanted that document repeated closer to the interview date to be sure he was still single and free to marry. So we left after the worker said "congratulations". We were so happy! The following day, he was able to obtain this document. When we returned to the embassy to hand in this final paper, the guards would not allow us to enter. After a phone call, we were told to return to the embassy at 3pm. So on 7/2/13 we returned and again waited for about an hour and a half. This document was then received and we were told that they would "continue to process the case". I asked if this meant he was approved for the visa and the worker said "...it means, we will continue to process the case". Wow, we didn't know whether to be nervous or to hang onto the previous worker's words of congratulations!!! I returned to the USA on 7/3/13, still uncertain as to whether he was in fact approved!! However, on Friday, 7/5/13, the Embassy called his cell phone and said he was approved and to pick up the Visa on Monday, 7/8/13. He now has the Visa and will be flying in soon! Scary time but worked out in the long run! |

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
