Our interview was today June 25. We were first in line outside at about 645am, and the doors opened at 730am. We went through security after being asked to see our loomis/DHL confirmation. We had an umbrella with us and a clear plastic accordion binder and had no security issues. Went down stairs and sat right next to the elevator.
Although we were first there we ended up getting number #3 at reception area as we entered the elevator to the back right instead of the back left. The door opens front left to right so we were third out and no one seemed to care that we had been standing in line much longer than them. But it was ok because ticket number 1 got called right away and we needed some more time to get the necessary papers requested together.
We waited about 5-10 min for our number to get called and handed in all the paperwork to the nice woman behind the window who kept adding to the list of things needed as she went along (birth cert, passport, police report, medical exam, plus copies of all of them, and passport photos). Then fingerprints were taken and we handed in a new I864 for me as I quit my job in April and a Co-Sponsor I864/Taxes/Copy of passport for him. Then went to sit back down.
We waited about 20min and our number was called to window 7 (at this point we realized only one window was doing the interviews because although number 2 had been called after us to the initial windows she was called before us to window 7). The interviewer was a nice man but not overly nice and he asked us where we met, where in California I lived, what I do for a living (but not my wife) and how I planned to support us on such a small income (I explained i had been in university for several years and working only full time but had a full time job before leaving the US to visit my wife in Canada). He seemed fine with that and handed us the welcome letter and explained we should get to the airport 4 hours early due to processing time of the packet when we do POE.
It was as others have said the easiest part of our journey especially since we were worried about the new I864 and me traveling to Canada and Europe this summer. They never asked for proof of domicile or work or anything.
You should really get there by 7am at the latest because the line starts to grow after 7am. We had no issues with anyone stopping us because we were there too early, our appointment letter said 9am and some say you can only arrive 20min prior to that but we had no issues. A lady took a stroller in there and some people had small bags with their paperwork so I guess that's ok too as long as its not a backpack. |
