Consulate Review: Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : November 4, 2013
Embassy Review : My fiancee arrived at 8:30a for a 9:15 am appointment. She waited in one line for about 20 minutes then took a seat. She was called to a window very shortly after and submitted documents to the CO. The CO only requested official documents, meaning no evidence like pictures, emails, etc.

She then went to another line and waited for a number and then took a seat to wait for the interview. When she went to the window she greeted both the CO and interpreter in English. The CO then had her sign the I-156...which made my fiancee feel like she had already been approved and that totally relaxed her.

The CO then asked if the ring she was wearing was her engagement ring, she replied yes and told them about the ring, which is a moonstone. My fiance does not like diamonds.

From that point forward my finace said it was like 'talking to friends' and the CO seemed to be asking questions 'just for fun'. The CO and interpreter smiled a lot and only asked a total of 10 questions. Here they are:

Is that your engagement ring?
Why didn't your fiance get you diamond?
Where did your fiance buy the ring?
How did he propose to you?
How did you meet your fiance?
How many times did your fiance visit?
What dates did your fiance visit?
What did you two do the last time your fiance visited?
Do you know what the requirements are for a K1 visa?
Do you know how long you have to get married on K1 visa?

The CO then said "Congratulations you passed."

Total interview time was about 10 minutes.
Total time in Consulate was 2.5 hours.
No one asked for any additional evidence.

I hope everyone has as good an experience as my fiance.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
