Consulate Review: Mumbai, India
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : April 24, 2013
Embassy Review : April 18th, 2013 Approved CR-1!

7:30 am
My husband was at the Consulate since his interview was scheduled for 8:30 am. There were quite a few people in front of him. The security/VFS folks asked to form two lines, an immigrant & a non-immigrant line, and asked them to have the Interview Letter & Passport handy.

7:45 am
He was in after 15 minutes of waiting & went through the Security Check to the main gates into the front yard of the consulate. As he passed through the Security Check & got himself cleared, he walked out the other end of the room, into the courtyard, and then into another building. There he again stood in a line.

8:00 am
A window opened and they were all given a token number depending on the visa category and had stuck the token number to the interview letter. And was asked to wait.

8:30 am
His token number appeared on the screen and he walked to that specific counter. He was asked by an Indian Lady, which language would he prefer and he said English. Then she asked him for his Interview Letter, Medical Reports & Passport and my 2012 Tax Returns. He then handed out all the necessary documents and was asked to put his fingers on the fingerprint scanner. Then she stuck half of the token onto his passport and kept it. She then returned all the documents including the packet that we had sent in to the NVC and explained & handed him a sheet of the “Legal rights available to Immigrant victims of domestic violence in US” which explained the same, the sheet has the National Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault hot-line phone numbers too.

She also asked him quite a few questions:-

Who is calling You?
Who sponsored your wife?
How long has she been in the States?
Is this your first marriage?
Do you have any kids?
What is your D.O.B?
Have you ever applied for a visa before?
When did you guys meet?

After 2 hrs of waiting, his token flashed on the screen and was called by an American CO.

Who is calling you?
How did you meet?
When did you get married?
When did you see her for the last time?
Where does she work and what does she do?
Where did you go for your honeymoon?
Can you show me some of your wedding pictures.

He did his Oath, was then asked to sign & date Part II of DS-230 and was told that "your visa has been approved and enjoy your life in the States with your loved one." He also gave my husband a notice regarding the USCIS new Immigrant Fee that he must pay before he leaves the country with my husband's case id and alien number.

We really appreciate & sincerely thank all the members of VJ who had provided us with all the help & support. We wouldn't been able to do any of this without you, especially Saylin & Darnell who made our way easier & quicker through the NVC stage with all their tips & guidance. Do remember there is always light at the end of the tunnel and hope everyone who are waiting will soon be united with their loved ones.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
