Consulate Review: London, United Kingdom
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : June 14, 2013
Embassy Review : This is a review for my husband’s interview with as many details as I could muster from him. haha

His interview scheduled for June 14th, 2013 @ 9:30am. He arrived at the US Embassy in London at 6am due to train schedule he had to suffer through the early arrival time. He was third in line outside and after giving his electronics to his father he enter the line and began the wait for 1 hour+ about 7:10 to 7:20 they started letting them in. After only a few minutes MANY more people were quickly in the line as well. While in line outside a woman with a trolley came up and checked to make sure you had a letter to be there.

Once inside you go to a consulate officer who checks your letter again, and your passport to your face. Once cleared there you are taken to the security for everything to be checked. Following the building around to the right until you enter the visa entry area and everyone given a number based on their type of visa, N=work, I=immigration.

He waited about an hour till 8am for them to being calling numbers and his I-901. His number was called first even before any N-#. When he was called he went around to a private booth, where upon arriving at the window he met Verona an African American woman. She put him at ease when they started discussing his and her names. She went through the file and paperwork. She asked for an original copy of the deedpoll for his name change which he had. She then told him there was a box that was not ticked by me, (the petitioner) and that normally she needs to hand him the form and have him reschedule. He asked for just having an unchecked box? She replied, “Yes, but give me a minute.” They were talking she handed him the sheet where and where to check and then took it back and acted like it had been ticked all along. Then she said, “now we need to get your fingerprints.” He was then printed and handed a paper on domestic abuse and explained the next part of the interview. Then handed him the chest x-ray cd. She explained that the medical only lasts for 6 months so you have 6 months to enter the US. He then explained that if he was not here in a few weeks his wife would likely kill him to which he laughed. She was very reassuring to him and helped relaxed him. The last thing she gave him the pink slip to fill out for the courier delivery of the passport and to go back to wait for the second part.

Quite a few others were called before him to the second window, likely because his appointment was not until 9:30am. Honestly, he has no idea how long he waited because every minute felt like an hour and he had no watch with him to keep track of time. When he was finally called to the second window, where he was greeted by another African American woman who was very polite. She went through some more paperwork.

She asked him the following questions very casually gauging more on his comfort than the responses themselves:
-How did you meet? “Online”
-What online game? “Second life” Then commented that seems to be pretty popular
-When did you start talking about marriage?
-Did she know you were going to purpose?
-How many siblings does she have?
-Where does she fall in the birth order?

She then told him he was going to be printed again to make sure he was who he said he was to which my husband commented, “after all this I can tell you I’m certainly not doing it for anyone else.” They both laughed, she printed him from a random selection of which to print. Then told him, “yes you are who you claim to be” to which my smart mouth husband joked, “thanks for confirming that one for me.” She went through the paperwork a bit more. He said he felt some of it was very much a psychological test just to see how you react to the pressure the wait. She said, “alright there is just one more thing to do…” at this point scaring the crap out of my husband by the way she was saying it…”and that is to tell you your visa has been approved, (where she broke out into a smile) congratulations and welcome to the United States and once your passport arrives you are free to travel and legally to become a US resident.” He could not thank her enough. She returned the original documents to him and sent him on his way. He cried some as he walked through the crowd of people, tears of relief.

Then he went and paid for the courier the line of which was very long but also quite quick. He paid for the delivery before noon as he was told that is the most reliable. He was given a tracking number. Then left and found his dad who had his cell phone and made that call to me who was waiting ALL NIGHT. I got the call around 4:15 EST so that would be 9:15 local time in London. Time seems to move so slowly when they are inside the building feeling such stress and tension. He was not in there 2 hours and only a little over an hour from the time they start the interviews at 8am. It was a great experience there, though one we do not want to have to do again! Haha

After I then updated all of facebook for our friends and family on both sides of the pond who had been keeping up with it for the majority of the night! (I was up for 23 hours) It was so wonderful to post that message and with it the relief and reality sunk in and the tears fell down my face. This is a grueling process but one that each of us do and this challenge the test of our love has been deem APPROVED and now onto our happy ever after! javascript:emoticon('')

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
