Event Description
Review Date : November 9, 2012
Embassy Review : I want to write a review as a means of giving back to VisaJourney. We referenced to this site countless times from the filing to the actual interview process. I have read and reread the reviews in preparation for my interview. VisaJourney really helped us a lot and for that we are very grateful.
My visa interview appointment was on November 8, 2012 at 7:30am. When I got there at around 6am, I learned that there is no more deposit counter for cellphones so I had to ask my friend to come to the US Embassy to keep mine. Before going in the US Embassy compound, a staff got my appointment letter and put a sticker at the back of my passport (with a barcode and my name on it). After passing through security check, I got a ticket number from a window. I was instructed to sit at the far end of the waiting area and to watch out for my number from the electronic board.
When my number flashed for the first time, I got in the main building and passed through another security check to submit my DS forms (156, 157, 156k). After some time, my number flashed again for finger-scanning. When my number flashed for the third time, I was greeted by a friendly Filipino male Consul. I was asked to have my papers ready and he verified my name and date of birth. I gave my birth certificate, CENOMAR, NBI clearance and my fiancé’s Affidavit of Support with his employment letter, bank statement, stocks record, and paystubs. I also gave his ITR and W2. All of these documents are scanned copies only. Before setting up my appointment, I asked this question when I called the Embassy if this is allowed. I was advised it was alright. I explained this to the Filipino Consul when he asked if I have the original. It was also raised that the information on the ITR and W2 (stated income) did not match what was on the affidavit and I explained to the Consul that my fiancé recently moved to a different company which was substantiated by the certificate of employment. The Consul said that everything looks good and it’s up to the American Consul if they would need my fiancé’s original I-134 and employment letter. Some of the questions asked were if my fiancé was married before, if he has children, and when was the last time I saw him.
When my number appeared for the fourth time, it was for the interview by an American Consul. Surprisingly, she was a young female Consul who looks like in her late twenties or early thirties. She asked me to take the oath. The following were her questions: (1) When we met; (2) How we met; (3) If my fiancé has children; (4) If I have children; (5) If I’ve been to another country; (6) My fiancé’s job; and, (7) the number of times my fiancé visited me. My time before her lasted only less than 2 minutes. My pictures and chat logs were not even asked. I had the impression that she wanted me to answer briefly and so I did. My answers to her questions composed of one or two words like “none, never, no, twice, IT Specialist.” She then informed me to just wait for my number to be called again. After that she closed her blinds and went on lunch break.
We were advised to take our lunch break and were instructed to go back at 1pm. After waiting some more after the break, my number flashed for the last time for releasing. This was the only time I knew for sure that my visa got approved. My address was verified and was informed to wait for it in the mail. I was so happy they don’t need the originals anymore. This was a huge concern for me while preparing for the interview as what I had were scanned copies. I posted a question in the forum and all the answers I got were they need the original copy of the I-134. I also called the call center and was given the same answer. What happened was the letter from the embassy got lost in the mail. After more than a month from the date on the notice from NVC, I went ahead and called the US Embassy and inquired if they have received the approved petition. I was advised I can go ahead and schedule an appointment without the actual letter as I already have a profile and that they don’t have control of the mailing system. I then asked the question about the affidavit and was advised that scanned copy is allowed. I called again and spoke to the same woman and she was emphatic in giving the same answer. And so, even with the number of people saying the embassy requires the original I-134, I went ahead and scheduled my appointment.
Anyhow, I was overwhelmed with joy when I went out from the US Embassy premises at around 2:30 in the afternoon. I made a lot of friends while waiting for my number to be flashed on the electronic board. Overall, the experience is memorable. I don’t recall feeling nervous at all. I was more on anxious to be over the entire thing as my fiancé and I can’t wait to be together again. This is why I will go ahead and attend the CFO counselling/seminar even without my visa on hand. I already have a flight scheduled on the 21st as well. I know this is not a wise thing to do, but my fiancé and I will once again take the risk and go out on a limb so we can spend Thanksgiving together.
We give back all the praise and glory to God who makes all these possible.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
