Embassy Review : 06/06/14 - 08:30am

Took National Express coach up from Portsmouth. Arrived at Embassy at approx. 7:45. GET THERE EARLY, as in about 45 minutes early. When I arrived, I thought my queue was large. However, by the time I entered the embassy (about 8:20) the queue had increased 10 fold behind me - no joke. It looked like it was at least an hour long and the stress in the people's faces when they first set eyes on the queue was palpable.

YOU ARE ALLOWED TO TAKE PHONES INTO THE EMBASSY. The official website isn't too clear on this, but you can. I saw people with iPads too.

Once in the embassy, I was called up before I could even put my belt back on. The 'pre-interview' was strange... The woman at the desk was a little muddled. My file had some other guy's medical in there (same last name)... frustrating, but it was resolved pretty quickly - she apologised profusely and simply fetched my medical from the other guy's file.

Sat back in the main embassy section and it was quite pleasant. They have a snack bar in there and some televisions to stare at. One had BBC News 24, another had the US tourist board ads - quite interesting actually -, and the other had visa info.

The 1hr 30m wait passed more quickly than I thought it would, and before I knew it, I was chatting to my interviewer. Middle-aged American male, seemed to just be ticking through the form while rapidly reeling off seemingly random, but clearly probing questions. Questions about how and where I met my wife (teaching English in South Korea), questions about her family, what my joint sponsor (my father-in-law) does, questions about the ceremony. Nothing really too specific though, it was quite general and he seemed satisfied I was legit. 'Congratulations - I have approved your visa. You should receive it within 7-10 workdays'. I responded by hurriedly thanking the guy, grabbing my stuff and darting out of there ASAP. The interview literally took less than 5 minutes.

My visa arrived in 4 workdays :P
Rating : Very Good
