I received an RFE on January 20, 2017. I had my passport stamped in April 2017 and traveled internationally with no issues coming back to the U.S. I had my interview with USCIS on June 5, 2017, and was approved!! |

Hello Everybody!!
My fiancé and I had the interview today in Montreal and *drum roll* APPROVED!!! I couldn't hold in my excitement, and clapped, haha! Anywho, I wanted to write up the review while it was fresh, so here we go!!
We arrived in Montreal on Sunday evening, and checked into the Travelodge on Boul. Rene Levesque. The room was $110 for one night, plus $20.00 for parking. (Heads up, if the parking garage is full you have to park down the street under the Desjardins building). It's a short walk from the parking garage back to the hotel and there is an IGA grocery store on the way! I didn't sleep much, I think I woke up every hour paranoid that my alarm wouldn't go off. We left our hotel in the morning at 6:45, we had to swing by the garage to pick up my fiancé's passport (he forgot it, GRR). We arrived at the consulate at 7:05am and we were the first in line, woohoo!! We were both starved for coffee and would you believe there is a Cultures in the same building as the consulate! They have fantastic little breakfast sandwiches and delicious coffee. It was perfect!! The line started to fill up shortly after, and at 7:30 they opened up the doors. I got a wee bit excited and walked inside without instruction and was shooed out and told to wait, oops!! The guard let us in one at a time, a pleasant woman took my passport, and Loomis receipt. You then go through an airport like security, and are instructed to go through a door, down a flight of stairs and into a waiting area. We sat right next to the elevator as instructed on Visa Journey, and at 8am a guard came down and let us shuffle into the elevator. I think I must have prepped my fiancé a solid 20 times to go straight to the back of the elevator, it was game time!!!!! I was a little bit shocked by how pushy people were! Once the elevators opened we walked toward a desk where a woman greeted us all. I was clearly first in line, but some jerk came and tried to put his documents down before me, he was overlooked and we were sent to the first window . Here we were given our number, C1!! We took a seat but our number was called right away, first window! Like others have mentioned there isn't much privacy at this window. I could hear everybody, and I'm sure they could hear me. I was asked for my passport, medical, I-134, fiancé's 2012 tax return, criminal clearance, birth certificate plus a photocopy, MRV receipt and he took my finger prints. We were instructed to wait again, and with in 5 minutes our number was called once again. We headed down a more private area, and greeted by a very nice woman. She gave me back my birth certificate, and asked a couple of basic questions "How did you meet your fiancé" "Have you traveled to the US?" "When is your wedding?" She asked my fiancé where he lived, and what he did for a living. Super simple, and she was really nice!! I had my finger prints taken again, signed a couple of documents and then APPROVED!!! That was it! We brought a lot of paperwork and most of it they didn't ask for, including our proof of relationship. I had passport photos with me and they didn't ask for those either.
All in all it was MUCH easier than I had anticipated. Everything people say is 100% true, as long as you have your paperwork in order the interview is a breeze!!!
We met a VJ couple who were very nice. I hope everything worked out for them!!
Helpful Tips:
- Walk to the consulate, driving in downtown Montreal is a NIGHTMARE.
- Bring some cash with you, Cultures (opens at 6am) in the building doesn't take debit, and there are vending machines in the waiting area that are cash only.
- Don't bring a bag/purse ..I stuck my bills/passport/debit card in my pockets.
- Get breakfast at Eggspectations, it's delicious
- BREATH!!! Everyone is very nice!
Thank you SO much to Visa Journey. This website has helped us SO much, I don't think we would have been able to do this without it. Thank you to everyone on the forums, and good luck to all the upcoming interviews!!!!!!!!!

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
