I phoned London Embassy after getting case number from NVC & they told me I could send the forms before receiving packet 3, so I did & the letter arrived just days after. My medical was on June 4th. I phoned Embassy a week after medical & was told interview date would reach me 1-2 weeks (I got letter a week later) |

Finally, approved & awaiting my passport back with the visa in it!
Appointment time: 9am
Arrived at the Embassy at 8:20, already a long line outside and already getting hot (this was the day it reached 30'c in London)
Reached the security check point by 8:50, showed passport, interview letter & MRV receipt(for fees paid) bag scanned & walked through body scan.
Went through to the first reception desk, showed interview letter & MRV receipt again, they scanned the barcode on receipt & stuck a number on the letter, mine was I-918.
Went through to the huge waiting room & it was hot hot hot, they had huge fans at the front of the room, but all I felt they really did was blow around some peoples really bad body odor - nice!
Took the Metro paper in to read, but really you cant easily read as every 7secs (most of the time) a 'Bing' sound happens to alert you that another number is up on the screen - yes just like Argos, your number is called to a window.
The windows are along where you are sitting & more round the corner - 25 total I think. So instead of reading, I vaguely watched the big TV screen (with argos numbers next to it) which was showing off all the sights & universities in America (with subtitles), the was also a screen with the news on & another with Ceebies for children - this may have been the one I watched - pretty funny with no sound!
So i started to time anyone with 'I' numbers like mine - they are quite few & far between and I think they are for all family related, so everyone else must be students or work i guess?!
To begin with it seemed like only Window 1 was seeing 'I' numbers, and they were taking about 15mins per person & that was just the 1st stage. The were at I-903 when I arrived. Then window 13 & 14 started calling the next number in line & things sped up.
I was finally at window 13 by 10:15am. She took the interview letter & passport, then the MRV receipt, then birth certificate (©), police certificate (©), then I-134 (affidavit of support) & I asked '& evidence?' she took just his tax return & i said how complicated it looks & not sure which pages they needed - she was British & said she didn't understand them either but it looked fine. We had a joke about my passport photo - my hair looked particularly dark in it for some reason & i had highlights last week getting ready for wedding day! She then gave me a form to fill out for the courier, ready for after the interview (hopefully) & I sat down again. I was with her about 15mins.
Called up to Window 15 at 11am and lovely American man quizzed me:
- Has your fiance been married?
- Have you been married?
- Why are you moving instead of him?
- How did you meet?
- Did your fiance go to university?
- Where to you hope to work?
- Where was your fiance born? (I said San francisco, California - he wanted more specific, thankfully I knew, but my fiance tends to just say San Fran!)
- When do you intend to travel?
- When do you intend to marry?
I think that was about it, he kept quite serious but still happy looking ish, I did make him laugh, when he asked about work I mentioned working with Children & being a Mary Poppins as I'm British - he found it funny...
So he said I was Approved & then I couldn't keep the smile off my face, then had to line up for the courier payment (£14.80), that line was pretty long and i couldn't help but smile at everyone - particularly people walking in just arriving! It was a smile that even if you try to tone it down, it almost hurts because it won't go!
So I was out by 11:25 ready to meet my Mum in good old Marks & Sparks (gonna miss their food) by 11:30. |
