POE Review: CDN-USA Border
Event Description
Entry Date : 2013-04-20
Embassy Review : We chose to cross at the Peace bridge at the border between Niagara Falls and Buffalo New York. We didn't get there as early as we hoped and there was some traffic but all in all we wait only 5 min to get up to the wicket. My parents were in the car ahead of us and they told the agent in advance what we were there to do and they asked if they could wait with us. The agent was very pleasant but said that they could not wait because there wasn't enough room.
When we pulled up he said, "I hear we have an immigrant with us today" and he was very friendly. He took my passport and the passport of my fiancée who was the passenger in our tiny Uhaul. He said to enter the building and go to the second floor and he gave us a little slip of paper that we had to hang onto.

There were a lot of people detained at the border that morning, a lot of them were families of 4+ but overall we waited about 30 minutes until they called my name. The gentleman that helped us was great. It seemed like he hadn't done a K1 visa in some time but he followed the instructions and everything went well. The only questions he asked was, "How did you meet" and "Do you plan to work when you are down there". I said once I have filed the proper paperwork I do plan to work. He had some difficulty finding the local office we are to use but after conversing with some coworkers they figured it out. This process was very simple: you surrender your un-opened file, there was a couple questions, they take your fingerprints and photo and then you are on your way with a paper stapled into your passport. He also stressed NOT to leave the US without the proper documentation.

All in all, I was very glad I chose this border crossing. I didn't not have a vehicle to bring because last minute I learned that my "rebuilt" Saturn Vue was ineligible to register in the state of Alabama and I was also told I could not bring it over period even for personal use.. so I ended up renting a U-Haul. They didn't even look inside or ask what I was bringing. I spent so much time making an inventory and labelling everything. OH well!

Don't stress about this part of the journey if you are an honest person and have the right paperwork everything will be easy!

Best of luck, ya'll!

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
