Consulate Review: Mumbai, India

Event Description
Review Date : June 15, 2012
Embassy Review : My fiance went to Consulate around 7 AM and got in line. There was huge line for Non-immigrant visas and extremely short line for Immigrant visa, only 4 people. She got in that line all of them were asked to enter inside before the non-immigrant applicants. My fiance had already put her mobile and other electronic items in the locker facility provided by the VFS, so going through security was a breeze. All she had was relevant documents required for the interview in a clear plastic bag.

Inside the Consulate:

- One Indian lady officer asked her:
1. What is your name?
2. Who is calling you to US?
3. Did you bring the Demand Draft?

- She was asked to submit the DD was told to wait until her number was called.
- She waited upto 9 Am just talking to other applicants who were waiting.
- She was sitting right in front of the window counter where one American Lady officer was taking people's interview. The Lady Officer had made eye contact with my fiance 2 or 3 times while she was waiting.
- At around 9:30 AM my fiance was called to the counter where the American Lady officer was waiting for her.

- Questions by American Lady officer:

1. When did you get engaged?
2. Who came from your fiance's side for engagement?

The officer then started looking at some engagement pictures...

3. What do you two talk on the phone?

- The officer then made some updates in the computer and said CONGRATS, Your Visa is APPROVED!! She said you will get your passport with visa stamp through the courier.

- Before 10 AM my fiance was out of the consulate. Such a painless and easy process we never expected.

Thanks to everyone's suggestions on visajourney.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
