Consulate Review: Montreal, Canada
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : October 24, 2012
Embassy Review : We found parking for $11 a day that opened at 6am a few blocks away from the consulate so we decided to use it to be on the safe side. We were at the consulate by 6:15am. There's a Tim Hortons nearby if you need to warm up or grab some breakfast.

Once we got in, we went through the security screening proceedures and we made sure we didn't bring anything other than the absolute necessary. I had left my purse in the car and we only brought the non-electronic car key and the documents. My fiancé forgot he had headphones in his coat pocket, which the guards took from him but he was able to recover them after the interview.

We then went on to the waiting area and took the elevator to the 19th floor with everyone else. We were the first ones in line but let the lady behind us get the C1 ticket so we received C2. They call specific numbers by windows which means that window 1 only calls C1, C5, C9 etc and the same idea goes for the other 3 windows. As it was, the window #2 (where C2 would be first in line) took half an hour more to open than the other windows so we had to wait while all the other numbers were called (I think they got all the way to C12) until our window opened and we were called to it.

The handling of documents was easy, we sat down again and they called us to the interview room very shortly after (probably only a few minutes after C1 as we saw her leave right before we were called up) where they only asked a few questions and we were on our way with the approval letter in hand!

In hindisght, it was a much simpler process than we expected but I am still happy that I was over prepared with binders full of documents, proof of relationships, proof of finances (they only took my most recent IRS transcript) and many photocopies.

We were out of there by 9:15am.
Rating : Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
