Embassy Review : Jamnan had her interview on Tuesday, September 25th - 159 days after filing our I-129F. Went through the current interview drill - line up before 7 AM, say our good-byes and enter the embassy visa section. She came out at around 10 AM with a smile so I knew everything had gone well. Her comments:

Dropped a large stack of evidence - not sure if that is why her interview was later than others, but we had a harder case to make as we got engaged after one month. Lots of emails, phone records showing daily calls, pictures from our Phitee Mun, cards from friends and family in response to our engagement announcement, etc. Our case may have had one advantage in that we are both older (63/42) so our 22-year age difference falls well outside of the danger area of 1/2 the man's age + 7 years.

CO is described as friendly, soft spoken, lovely. Interviewed in Thai.

Questions after promising to tell the truth:

How did you meet?
Where is your fiance's home?
What language do you speak in?
Where and when did you learn English?
Asked to identify a number of pictures giving when, who, where.

Only issue she had was converting dates from the U.S. dates we had practiced with to Thai dates.

Very positive experience in the end - told her that her passport with visa would be delivered to her home in a few days. Now we begin the process of sorting through clothing and things, saying some good-byes, and getting on the plane on my birthday (using the tickets I purchased two weeks before I filed the I-129F - how is that for faith in the bureaucracy)
Rating : Very Good

Embassy Review : A long wait for our appointment (10:20 - 11:3)). Initial impression of our IO was very favorable, but the interview seemed to go wrong when my spouse's English was deemed not good enough to proceed. My fear was that that meant a delay, but it only meant that she called for an on-call translator to make sure that her questions were answered by my spouse and not filtered through me.

Asked the standard legally required questions, asked separately for our 'meeting' stories, family reaction, took some additional papers, returned our original marriage certificate, and copied some photos of our engagewment party, wedding and reception, and a few honeymoon/holiday photos. She talked with me about my background and whether I currently worked (I am retired). She had some intial concerns (I think) about our ability to communicate, but our interaction throughout our interview must have reassured her as we were approved later that afternoon.

All in all a more stressful interview than I had expected from our friend's reactions to us finally finding someone to marry (first for both of us (64 and 42 respectively).

Waiting for the greencard in the mail to see if we make it an even year since we first met which may be one of the first sub-year journeys.
Harassment Level : Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
