My experience at the US embassy in London was very positive - it is straightforward and as long as you are prepared, you will be fine. I won't go through the details of getting inside the embassy itself as others have already done a thorough job of that. Just make sure you don't take any electrical items and you bring your appointment letter! Three guys in front of me had to leave the line because of these mistakes! Anyway, the biggest piece of advice I can give for this stage is to disregard your appointment time and get to the embassy early (around 7:15-7:30am) as you'll be seen on a first come, first served basis!
I had to wait about 15 minutes after they started calling numbers (at around 8am) for my ticket number to come up. I saw a pleasant older man who took my documents and finger prints. I told him I had a co-sponsor and he didn't ask any questions about this, just asked for the forms and evidence of both my fiance and the co-sponsor. He stapled everything into my file then asked when I was hoping to travel. He reminded me I have 90 days after entry in order to marry and then gave me the pink courier form to go and fill out.
There was a longer wait between this and the actual interview, I'd say at least half an hour. My nerves were really starting to build up! Finally I was called and I was greeted by a smiley and friendly black lady. She took my fingerprints again and I signed the oath. She asked me quite a few questions but I didn't feel like I was being grilled, it just seemed like she was really interested in my relationship which, of course, she was! She put me at ease anyway. These are the questions she asked (that I can remember)..
Tell me how you met your fiance.
What did you talk about/have in common?
When did you meet in person for the first time? (we met online, hence this question)
Whereabouts are you planning on living?
Did you get the chance to meet his family?
Has he met your family?
What does he do for work?
Do you have a job at the moment? What is it?
Have you ever been to secondary inspection when going through the airport? (I know that when they scan my passport that it comes up with this info, so I was expecting a question about it!)
Tell me about that.
Was it a mutual decision to get married or did he propose?
Obviously listing the questions like that makes it sound intimidating, but it really wasn't  Anyway, she then said that all my file is in order and that I'm approved! :D I was so relieved, but it is taking a while to sink in still! Rest assured that if you are prepared, you should be fine. Everyone I encountered at the embassy was helpful and cheerful
