Embassy Review : |
Wow! I can't believe I've got to this stage already. I'm going to go through little details that I wasn't aware of so hopefully gives you a fuller picture.
Preparation
After reading on here that people were asked for photos and about photos, I made a last minute decision to print off extra photos I had not included in my initial application. I also did some last minute photocopying and thanks to the wonderful Raddison Hotel for doing that for me at 11pm the night before!
I made the decision to stay at a hotel the night before which made everything so much less pressured.
Interview Day
Got out of the hotel for 7am and headed to the Embassy, not knowing what to expect.
As I approached the Square, I saw the queue which already had about 30 people in! To be clear, the queue is not going into the building as I envisioned but there is a small desk on the pavement outside the Embassy. You work your way down towards it, the lady at the desk asks you for your appointment letter, passport and visa fee receipt. She asks you to take off belts, watches and remove anything from your pockets. She has plastic bags if you need somewhere to put your things (as I did).
You then move to the next queue, waiting for a security guard to call you forward, showing your passport and letter. (You're still not in the building yet..)
You get directed to the Security booth to pass through security. You leave the booth and come out on Embassy soil. You have to walk around the outside of the Embassy building following the Visa signs, to a set of steps. Finally inside the building you are in a reception lobby where you show the receptionist your appointment letter. She sticks your number to your letter and instructs you up the stairs to the waiting area.
The waiting area is pretty big, probably seats 100 people. Window booths 1-11 are along the side, Window booths 12 - 25 are around the corner ( these are the Interview windows). There is a small snack shop at the end of the room.
I sat down, my number was I904 which was good as the first I number is 901. The N numbers get called up quicker and was already on N50 by the time I got called to desk 1.
The lady at desk 1 was a character! People have referred to her as a Chinese lady but her lanyard had Mongolian Airlines on it She asked me a ton of questions but I think these were more out of making conversation then checking for information. This actually helped as it warmed me up for random questions! I watched her "build" my file with the copies I brought.
I had to offer some documents which she wasn't too concerned about. She gave me my chest x-ray and my pink form for the courier and took my finger prints.
I then sat down waiting for my number to be called. I had no concept of time at this point but I'd say it was probably about 30 mins after that I got called to Window 15.
Interview
A pleasant lady at the window, asked my to take an oath raising my right hand. She reads the oath you just say "I do"
She takes your finger prints to check its you. Then she begins with the questions.
So tell me how did you meet your fiance?
How did your relationship progress from there?
When did you next see him?
How long was that trip?
When did you last see him?
When did he first meet your children?
Does he have children?
What is his ex-wife's name?
How many bedrooms does he have?
What does he do? (I explained his business and his motivation behind it ..supporting Military Veterans etc)
Where does he sell his products? (I gave her the full web address which made her laugh, and I was wearing one if his shirts)
She would ask further questions from my answers.
After that, she said "congratulations, you are approved", instructed me to go to the courier counter which is at the front of the waiting room.
I literally ran to the courier desk so she couldn't change her mind!!

Timeline Comments: None yet, be the first!
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
