Event Description

Embassy Review : I sent out the checklist on 12/19/2012 and the embassy e-mailed me the 27th that I had an appointment for 1/3/2013. I e-mailed the embassy and my fiance was allowed into the embassy with me.

The appointment was at 10am and we arrived about 10 min early and rang the buzzer. Once upstairs, we went thru a sort of airport check. Only one person was allowed in the room at a time. We were told to sit in the waiting area and wait for my name to be called. There were 3-4 people already there.

My name was called and the officer asked me for "the documents". I gave him the medical packet, police report, birth certificate (virkatodistus), and DS forms. Then they called my name again and asked for 2 photos and I was told we would continue soon. Then they called me once again and asked for affidavit of support (when they ask for "the documents", it would be a good idea to make sure whether they need the affidavit of support now or later). Last they called me for the fingerprints and the woman said "I will ask you a few questions now" (It was interview time).

These were the questions asked:
How did you meet?
How soon did you start dating?
How long have you known each other?
Have you visited the US?
Have you met his family?
Has he met your parents?
What does he do?
What do you do?
What do you study?
What are you planning on doing in the US?
When are you planning on moving to the US?
Will you be living with his family?
Do you have any children together?

She barely asked anything about finances or any proof of relationship. At one point she asked me "is that your fiance over there?" and smiled at him, that probably was enough proof for her. The whole visit at the embassy took a little over an hour.

She said everything looks good and that I should receive an e-mail within a week stating when I could go to the embassy to pick up my package. On 1/7/2013 I received the visa/package in the mail registered, and when I checked it was sent out at 10am on 1/4/2013 (exactly 24 hrs after the interview). They never e-mailed me so I was surprised when I received it like that, and so quickly.

The whole interview process was very easy and simple, and the worst part was waiting in the small lobby area with people who made a lot of unnecessary noise (children...). The interviewing officer and the other staff inside were very nice and friendly. It seemed to me that the interview at the embassy was just a formality (and to receive the last necessary documents and stuff), almost as if my case had already been approved.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
