Embassy Review : |
I showed up at the security gate at 12:45pm, entered the Embassy, took a ticket and sat in this large waiting room surrounded by twenty windows. Between 1 and 2pm, the blinds opened one by one, revealing an officer behind most of them. However, only two ladies took care of the Immigrant Visas -- the only women. The others took care of non-immigrant visas, U.S. Citizens requests,...
There were four people with a "A" ticket before me (immigrant visas). Another fiancé visa (girl with ticket A109 and an amazingly calm baby, if you read it, Hi!), a marriage visa, someone getting a visa through his American father, and I'm not sure what the last one was about. Shortly after 1pm, I was called a first time to window 5. A French lady took my appointment letter and my ticket, and I sat again.
I was called again to the same window about two hours and half later. This time, she took all my documents and checked them one by one (with the I-134 form, I gave a letter from my Fiancee's employeer, her paychecks from the past two months and a statement of some savings she has). She wrote down a few things on different forms, explained me the AOS process and told me to go sit down again, that I would be questioned by a consulate officer soon.
I was then called to window 11. An American lady made me rise the right hand and tell I would say only the truth. She asked a few questions "tell me about your fiancé" "how did you two meet?" "what are you going to do there" "has she come to visit you in France?" she looked at the pictures, read a couple of letters we had our friends and famillies write, and finally closed the file and told me I would receive the visa by 10 days. Phew!
Overall, aside from the long wait, it was a pleasant experience. I was kind of expecting to face burly, cold immigration officers like you sometimes see them in American Airports, so it was a good surprise to see two kind and charming women. |

Embassy Review : |
If there has to be something unplesant, it was the long line before the immigration at Washington D.C. Dulles International Aiport.
Otherwise, once I was in front of the immigration officer, it all took less than five minutes. After opening the sealed brown envellope from Paris Embbassy, checking the documents and writing down a few things, he handed me back my passport and told me "good luck!" |

Timeline Comments: None yet, be the first!
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
