Consulate Review: Sydney, Australia
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : March 15, 2012
Embassy Review : Arrived early to MLC Building at about 7:10am. Waited in lobby. Couldn't go up to Level 10 to after 7:30am when the lift allows you to go up to Level 10. Went up to Level 10 and followed the corridor around to the right to the Security area. Had to wait briefly while guards where getting ready for screening.

Went in to be screened showed passport, gave guards bag to mind which had phone and other essentials in it which can't be taken up to the US Consulate. Was given pass for retrieval of bag when finished with Consular visit.I went through metal detector and then was told to sit in first line of chairs and wait. A few other people were being screened while I waited. Once they were screened we headed to the lift and taken up to 59th floor. Once on 59th floor I left the lift and headed over to another guard booth where I showed passport and was marked off a list and told to press Immigrant Visa button once through the door. Opened door and pressed button for Immigrant Visa and got ticket and sat and waited.

At 8am(my interview time) was called over to booth 2. The lady asked me to give any papers that where required. She took my provided envelope(3kg Express Post Platinum envelope) and signed the envelope and took the tracking sticker off.

She asked me about the passport photos that where in the folder from NVC. Wondered how long ago they where taken. I said a couple of months ago. Had them taken when I sent the I864. She also queried my National Fingerprint and Records check. She showed me my speeding fines that where on the certificate. Then showed me question 41 of the Visa Application Form where it says " Do you have any prior Criminal Records" I marked the box that said "NO". I advised her that in Australia you don't go to court for speeding Infringements. The lady left the bench and went out the back to discuss this with a colleague. Came back and said nothing and proceeded on with checking my original documents that I had to show. I was then told to put my 4 left fingers on the scanner, then my four right fingers and then my thumbs together on the scanner. I then had to sign the Visa Application Form. Once done was told to go and wait for my name to be called.

Interview Stage

Was called over to booth 5 and spoke to another lady. She told me to put my four left fingers onto the scanner and she checked them off the computer She had paperwork in front of her. Asked me a few questions such as "Whats the longest time I have spent in the USA", "Have I had any problems with US Immigration". She then passed a form "Refusal Worksheet" to me and said I have been rejected due to the Section 221g guidelines. She explained to me the procedures to rectify this problem. My Petitioning Relative needs to provide a US Federal Tax Return(2011) to the US Consulate so further processing can proceed. javascript:emoticon('')
I then left the consular section and made my way back down to the lobby getting my bag on the way.javascript:emoticon('')

I have since sent a copy of my wife 2011 US Tax Return to the US Consulate via email. Just a waiting game now. At least I have the Express Post Tracking number.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
