Consulate Review: Madrid, Spain
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description

Embassy Review : I met with my husband at 8:55 in the morning at the train station in Madrid. My husband travelled to Madrid the day before for his medical.

Since we still had plenty of time, we had a pleasant walk in a beautiful park in the center of Madrid. It was a beautiful day.

We picked up his medical results at 12:00 and then headed to a restaurant for lunch. We walked to the embassy and went inside at 2:30 pm for his 3:00 appointment. At the entrance, the staff was very polite. We left our bags and mobiles, we were then given a number and went in only with the documentation.

The first person called his number at 3:00 o'clock and reviewed all the documents sent in by NVC. She was very polite. She just asked me if my current employment letter was valid only for Spain, since we would be moving to the US. I confirmed this information, and then she asked me if this was the reason my father was the joint sponsor. Again, I confirmed this information. She also asked my husband if he had ever resided anywhere else besides Spain.

She then asked my husband to place his hand on the machine so that she could take his fingerprints. She did not ask for any documents. I assume because all the documents sent to NVC were correct and complete (she reviewed it in front of us). We were asked to sit down and wait for the official interview with the consul.

After a while, the consul called our number. He was very friendly, extremely polite, and professional. He asked us the following questions:

1. How did you meet?
2. When did the relationship turn romantic?
3. When did he propose?
4. What did my parents think of his proposal?
5. His career and when he would be finishing his studies.
6. What is my profession.
7. If we planned on working in the US.
8. He asked us both how we coped with any intercultural differences / issues in the relationship.
8. If I liked Barcelona (where we resided until now).
9. When we want to leave.

During the interview he interspersed the questions with a few jokes and friendly comments. He told us that he enjoyed looking at our pictures (sent at the I-130 stage)and thought our wedding was beautiful.

He didn't us for additional evidence or documents. So none of the papers and evidence which we carried with us came out of the folders. However, I don't regret taking them with us, since we preferred to have them and not need them and not vice versa.

He then told us that he would approve his visa (yeeyyyy) and to enjoy our last summer in Barcelona. He also told my husband to enjoy his permanent residence and new life in the United States. The consul told my husband that he will be receiving his passport with the visa within a week. He also informed him about the brown envelope which can only be opened by the official at the POE.

We were (and are) very happy!!! I want to confirm previous reviews and emphasize the friendliness and politeness of the staff at the Madrid US Embassy.

I also want to thank this forum for all the information and help regarding the whole procedure, you have been a great support and source of motivation.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
