Consulate Review: Juarez, Mexico Review Topic: E-1 Visa Event Description Review Date : December 16, 2013 Embassy Review : My husband had his interview on Monday, December 02, 2013 at 7:15am. I am writing a detailed review of our experience in hopes someone will find it useful and helpful and benefit from it. Monday, November 25: I took Greyhound bus from Los Angeles, CA to Tijuana, Mexico Airport and met my husband there. We flew from Tijuana - Ciudad Juarez on Volaris. Airfare was $85.00 one-way per person nonstop. We arrived to Ciudad Juarez at 7:30pm and took a taxi to our hotel Holiday Inn Express - Misiones. The taxi cost was 240 pesos or $18.00USD. Tuesday, November 26: MEDICAL My husband and I arrived at the medical clinic at 6:00am. He went to Clinica Medica International. When we arrived there was no line. They asked for the invitation letter and his passport and let him in. They sent me to the waiting area. He said they separated the women and the men. They did blood work, xrays, urine test and gave him 5 shots total in both arms and everyone was sent to separate rooms to wait for the doctor. The doctor asked him to get undressed with only his underwear on. The doctor asked questions about his health, if he has taken drugs, if he had any tattoos, any surgeries, scars. My husband has noticeable birthmarks on his face and leg and he was asked about them. He also said yes to have tried drugs once a long time ago so he was sent to the physcologist. It is important not to lie during the exam. He had to return the next day to pickup his results. Allow 2 days for medical incase you have to pickup the results the next day. Total cost of medical including shots and taxes was $348.00USD. We paid cash but they take credit cards and pesos as well. His medical took 3 hours but he said because they made him wait about 1 hour and 1/2 for the pyscologist to arrive. Wednesday, November 27: PICKED UP MEDICAL RESULTS We went to pickup his medical results around 11:00am and was given to him right away with no wait. He received a black sealed envelope. Do not open the envelope. It needs to be handed over at the interview sealed. Thursday, November 28: THANKSGIVING DAY Free day as Consulate, Medical and Biometrics offices were closed for the holiday. Friday, November 29: Free day Saturday, November 30: BIOMETRICS APPOINTMENT His appointment was at 8:00am. We arrived 15 minutes early. They will not let anyone in until your appointment time is displayed in big numbers on the window. You only need the DS-240 letter and passport. Only my husband was let inside and it only took about 15 minutes and he was done. Sunday, December 01: Free day Monday, December 02: INTERVIEW DAY We woke up at 5:00am and left the room at 6:00am and headed to the "Sala de Espera". You need to go there first to get your paperwork checked and stamped. I was allowed inside with him here. Once they check and stamp your paperwork then you are asked to sit down until they call everyone by appointment times and then tell you to go to the consulate. Here, I was not allowed inside only my husband. He said you are given a number and when his number was called he went up to the window and was asked for his folder he was carrying and the lady pulled out all the necessary forms. She pulled my original birth certificate, our original marriage certificate, his original birth certificate, copy of my passport, DS-230, my work letter and W-2 and my taxes and handed everything else back to my husband and asked him to sit down until his number was called again for the interview. Once his number appeared again he was sworn in and was asked the following questions: Who is petitioning you? What is your wifes name? How do you spell her name? (My name is Michell without an E at the end and I think it was to see if he knew how to spell it since most people normally have an E) What is her birthdate? Where was she born? Is she a U.S. Citizen? Where did you both meet? How long ago did you first become boyfriend and girlfriend? When did you get married? What are her parents names? Do you have any children together? Have you had any problems with the law before? Have you had any visas before? When was the first time you entered the USA? Have you worked in USA before? Do you have a Tourist Visa? How many times did you enter and depart USA? He said in between each question particular asked about his visas the consular would go behind a counter and check a computer. Most likely verifying to see if what he said was true. Finally when all the questions were done, he was handed a blue slip allowing him to file for a waiver. This was expected from us as we knew he needed a waiver. The interview itself he said took about 20 minutes. He was out by 9:00am. Tuesday, December 03: LEFT CIUDAD JUAREZ HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS LAS MISIONES: The hotel rooms are large, clean and spacious and very comfortable. Continental breakfast is included for each day of your stay. The hotel staff is very friendly. They have free shuttle and will take you anywhere. You need to make a reservation for it though. We reserved it to the airport and it was free of charge. The hotel guard name is Miguel and he offered us excellent service and gave us good pointers as to where to go and where not to go. On the night we arrived he even pointed out to us where the consulate, medical and biometrics buildings were. The hotel is within walking distance to where you need to go and directly across from a huge mall. I paid $60 p/night at the Holiday Inn. LAS MISIONES MALL Across the street from the hotel is this huge mall called Las Misiones. There you will find tons of shops (Sears, Liverpool etc...) restaurants (Applebees, etc..) food court (McDonalds, Wendy's, Dominoes etc...) a movie theatre and even a casino. Rating : Very Good
