Our first Doc intake day was Tuesday, and we got to Guangzhou Monday afternoon, and after checking into our Hotel, we had time to walk over and find the Consulate Building and walked inside as well. The Consulate itself was closed Monday (Labor Day Holiday). We got as far up using the escalators as the third floor before we were barred going further by it being roped off. One note, there is no signage in front of the building identifying that the US Consulate is there. The building is set back a bit from the street (which is needed for the Visa lines everyday). It is just north of the Westin Hotel.
On Tuesday, we got there early, and were the tenth in line. Ying and I start talking to those around us and got to know a few other couples. They start letting us in about 10 minutes before the appointment time (12:30). The woman at Ying's window is Chinese and very polite to Ying. No problems with Doc intake, except the woman did not take as much "stuff" other than the official that Ying wanted to submit. I had told her to expect this, and she would just have it with her the next day.
Interveiw: Time written on our sheet was 7:30 AM, but we were with the "early birds" again, showed up around 6:30 AM, an hour early, and saw the same other couples we had met the previous day. Our position in line is about the same as the day before. Ying's interview was so easy, the woman asked her my name and address and where I worked, but all the rest of their conversation was what I would call just "chit chat". She complemented Ying on her English, and Ying complemented the Visa officer on her Chinese, which made her smile big. When the VO was finished typing into her computer, she turned to Ying and said "congratulations, your Visa is approved, you will get it in about two weeks". Ying said, almost dissapointed, "But don't you want to see anything I have here? Here is my Fiance's passport, he wrote a letter to you too." The VO said "No need to see this" Entire interview lasted about 5 to 7 minutes. The only complaint I have is that even though we were early, Ying's number was not called until after 11 AM, she had to wait and cool her heels for over 3 and a half hours. They either call the numbers random, or those they have already decided will have no issues, they make wait to be among the last to be interviewed. This drove me crazy waiting downstairs, because all the others we made friends with while standing in line were done before us, and some of them had issues and got the blue paper. I tried to help them with why they got the blue paper, and recommended to all of them to please use the VJ website for help, while I was waiting. |
