Hmmm where do I begin?
We woke up around 3AM could not sleep so we headed out the door around 4:15AM and arrived at the embassy around 4:30AM. Yes we were the first in line. Around 5:15AM another couple came but was there for a visitor’s visa to visit their kids (they were later denied along with dozens if not hundreds of others for visitor visas). It was very cold but not raining (yet) but when the sun came up it warmed up a little. The guard Policeman allowed us to the black containment belt (he will say don’t go past the black line but its like one of those movie retractable restrain belts) around 6:15AM a ladies voice came over the PA giving instructions on where to line up based on visa application. We were first inline for line 3 and second inline for window 29 because Milena read another review about making sure the paper work was right before you handed it in. Around 7:15 AM window 29 came to life (the last window to raise its shades) which made us number three to get through that line.
Notes:
1. I noticed a lot of folks with chest X-rays which we did not bring and was not asked.
2. I front loaded the file (sent in everything DS, 230, 156, 156k, I-134 and all supporting documents, going evidence and proof of visiting in the last two years. She pulled all of that out of the file and handed it back to me took her about 10 mins and she didn’t seem happy about it. But that’s not to say that the CO did not view the file already.
3. I noticed a lot of folks filling out forms there in line and gluing photos on the 156K.

Although we were first in line for everything it was not until around 9:15AM that Milena was finally called and not to mention after everyone who was in line with us at window 29 had been called once or twice and approved. So at this point I was stressed out because I figured that they must be getting all the easy cases out of the way and those that are a go before they took on those with issues and denials. Milena was very stressed to the point that I was not allowed to get anything to eat or use the restroom so her stress started to stress me out. When she was called it was to window 5 an older redheaded woman with glasses. She immediately asked Milena to take her finger prints then asked theses questions.

How many times has he visited you?
Name the hotels in each of the four cities
She asked about my son who he lived with
My birth date and city that I was born in

The interview was conducted in Spanish but I could pick up on what was being asked based on Milena’s answers. The Lady never asked to see the 1,000 plus pages of Skype, Facebook and emails that I brought, nor did she ask to see any of the photos Milena stayed up half the night writing on. She did look over my tax returns that I provided from 08 to 2011 and the letter from my employer. Because the interview was in Spanish and she never asked me a question I did not know how it was going so I watched the body language of the interviewer and recalled from Visa Journey that when the CO reaches for that white form its bad. She closed Milena’s file with out a stamp and took both the form that she had written something on and Milena’s passport and handed them to her. I took it to look at it but of course it’s in Spanish. Milena smiled (I told Milena that if we got denied that just smile and thank the person and we would go with plan B which was to get married in Colombia and try again). Milena turned to me and say Baby we were approved but I have to send the lady a new passport because my 2010 passport is no good.
So yes we got approved and as soon as Milena gets back to Barranquilla she will obtain a new passport (I think they want the one that can be scanned or the photo was not to US standards) they will send the visa. Maybe a two week delay. Also Milena almost had another issue but she fixed it the night before. She obtained a police report (whatever it’s called) but as of January 1st that was invalid (although it states its good for a year) the lady at window 29 asked her for it and she just happened to have it in our extra forms folder.
I will say without the help of all of you guys here on Visa Journey we would have had a fail on our hands so thank you all very much and keep spreading the word about VJ to everyone because there was a lot of lost folks there today getting denied left and right.
