Event Description
Review Date : March 15, 2012
Embassy Review : I arrived at the embassy about 9.35am for my 10am appointment. First I showed my appointment letter to one of the woman outside in yellow jackets who ticket my name off her list and told me to stand in the visas line. This line wasn't very long and was fast moving. Next I showed my passport and appointment letter to another lady who said to take off any watches and belt for screening and I waited about 2 minutes for to get in the security hut outside the embassy. They were letting in 5 at a time and it was a very quick process I just hand over my bag for scanning and walked through an airport style machine. I wasn't frisked or made to take off my shoes or jacket which I was half expecting.

Once through security I followed the signs for visas until I came to the reception. There a nice lady took my appointment letter and put a sticker on it and directed me up some stairs to the waiting room. The waiting room was very crowded (rough estimate 200 +) but there were plenty of seats. The comparisons to Argos that have been made are very true, there are screens and a voice says what number and window to go to. It is very clear, must be those Bose speakers I spotted they use.

I was I913 and after only about 10/15 minutes I was called to desk 1. I numbers are very few and far between, its mostly N. In fact I think I only heard about 6 I numbers the whole time I was there. I went up to desk 1 and there was no one there but after about a minute of waiting and wondering if I had misheard a Chinese lady came and asked for my 2 photos and visa receipt. She then took my police & birth certificates (and copies) and took the affidavit of support along with Lisa's last 3 pay stubs and a letter from her work. I offered her a letter from Lisa's bank but she said what I had given to her was plenty. I did find the lady at times hard to hear through the window I had to ask her to repeat a few times but she was very nice and even laughed when taking my fingerprints. She said I wasn't putting my fingers flat enough and it must be the fashion to bend my fingers haha.

The lady had our file in front of her and signed off some sheets. She then gave me back my chest x-ray CD which she said I need at POE and gave me a courier letter to fill in while I waited to be called for the interview. Twice the lady asked me when I was planning to travel to the States and stressed that the visa must be used in 6 months.

Buoyed by the fact I'd only waited 10/15 minutes I thought I might be done quickly but I had to wait about 2 hours 45mins to be called again, the waiting room had significantly thinned by the time I did get called. When my number was called a younger American man first gave me back my birth & police certificates and then took my fingerprints and made swear an oath. Then he got me to write Lisa's name and sign my own name on a form, which I think was the DS 156K.

Then he asked me a few questions
How did we meet?
Where is Lisa living at the moment?
What does Lisa work as?
When did you get engaged?
Why do you want to be with Lisa?
When was the last time you saw each other?
What is the proudest thing you have done/been a part of in the United Kingdom?

The last question really threw me and I ended up saying supporting my local football team St Mirren!! Why I said this I've no idea but I didn't want to look like I was hesitating so I said the first thing that came into my head. He hadn't heard of St Mirren btw lol

After that he smiled and said we are more than happy to approve you, congratulations. Then he told me about the envelope I would get and said to make sure I paid DX courier services before I leave. I wasn't at his window for any more than 5 minutes. I thanked him, paid the courier and then left to collect my phone from my hotel and speak to Lisa.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
