My appointment was scheduled for 8.30, but I arrived by 8:00 because I was nervous and couldn’t sleep. There was a security guard in front of the entrance who asked me what I was doing and I told him I was early for my appointment (it says that you should not be earlier than 15 minutes on the website). The guy was really friendly and just said to go in. Both lines were almost empty, but that may have been due to the fact that it was raining. I got on the right line and didn’t have to wait long to go to the entrance. The man did not want to see my invitation, but only my passport. I was assigned number W607.
Next, I had to go through security. A guard outside asked for my electronics and etc. You have to put small things in plastic bags. I had to take my watch off, but I was allowed to put it in my own bag. The security is similar to the airport security. Your bag will get scanned, and you have to walk through a machine.
After that, I had to walk to another building. It is a big hall with many small booths. The man at the information stand looked at my number and told me to sit at the back of the hall to wait for my number to be called.
I was called to #23 after about 20 minutes. The nice lady took my passport and told me they will have to change my name to xUxxx instead of xÜxxx. We casually chatted about u or ue for a bit. Then, she told me that it’s nice that I am going be Bxxxxx soon anyway, and that will be cool for our kids in school because B is at the beginning, but it is not A. She said F is not so bad either. She looked through my documents and was pleased that everything was there. Also, she asked if I had done the medical, which I had. Then, I had to go sit down again.
I was called to #21 after about 5 minutes. The guy went through my documents again and also told me they have to change my name to because that is how the USCIS (?) wants it. He gave me back the duplicates of the I-134 and then he explained the visa in detail. It is a one entry visa, which is valid for 6 months. I have to get married within 90 days and then adjust status. He showed me the envelope that it will be shipped in that already had my DHL label on it. He asked if my fiancé’s and my addresses were still the same and if anything else has changed. Then, the guy showed me the envelope that I am not supposed to open and the small white envelope with the medical information. I was told to not give that away, and to send it with the AOS. He also told me to bring the CD I got from the medical when I enter the US. I had to write my fiancé’s name on the DS-156K. The guy was also really nice. #23 & #21 both spoke German with me.
Then, I had to sit down again for almost 1 hour. I felt really sick and nauseous. Finally, I was called to #17 and the consular looked at me, and then said I should go sit down for a second again because my picture wasn’t scanned right or something. So, I sat down again for about 5 minutes and felt really horrible because I thought there was something wrong with my file. Then, I was called back to #17 and he gave me back the originals from Pack 3. I had to hold up my right hand up and swear that I'm going tell the truth. He took my fingerprints, which I messed up of course by doing the right instead of left. Duh :< Then, we had to redo it again because my hands were so sweaty. Again, I was told that they will have to change my name because of the umlaut, and I told him that it doesn’t matter because the name is going to change soon anyway. He asked what my name is going change to as well as the following questions:
(What is my name changing to?)
How did we meet?
What is the name of the game? (No, not WoW ;o)
What is the game like?
Where does my fiancé live?
What does he do for a living?
What do I do for a living?
Where are we going to live?
Do we have a date for the wedding?
He misunderstood or I explained poorly that where we are going to live and where my fiancé lives now are two different places. We are going to move once I arrive. I had to clarify that and it was fine. After the questions, I had to sign the DS-156K.
I saw him write OK on one of the documents, and told me I am approved. He said that my visa should arrive in the next 5-10 days. I said thank you and tried really hard not to cry.
Overall, I had a good experience. My waiting time was relatively short and everyone was really nice! The visa arrived exactly one week later. Apparently, they forgot to give me back the pictures we submitted with the I-129F and those arrived in an extra envelope the same day.
