PART II
I stayed at the Napul'e bed & breakfast. It is a cozy place located very near the Consulate (about 3 walking minutes). I came from the Naples airport and, instead of taking a taxi, I was able to arrage a pick up by the staff at the B&B. The B&B staff were extremely kind. They also took us to (and back from) the Instito Varelli for the medical exams. I highly reccomend this B&B for your short stay in Naples.
MEDICAL EXAMS: The Instituto Varelli is a nice and modern clinic. The personel is very efficient and functional. The medical exam is pretty straight forward. First they took my blood sample for STD and HIV check, then they reviewed my vaccination history and determined which shots I needed. I then paid in cash the overall fee (I paid 215 euro which included exam and 2 shots). After that, a nurse checked my height, weight and eye sight. A doctor then reviewed my medical history, did the routine check up and gave me the shots. Last I did the X ray and I was done by 10 am.
BRING THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS WITH YOU:
1) DS230 + 1 PHOTOGRAPH
2) Vaccination history
3) PASSPORT
4) CODICE FISCALE for Invoice (fattura)
FINGERPRINTING:
After medical exams, you will ask to be at the Consulate at 2 pm for fingerprinting.
After you clear security, go up to the second floor and take a seat.
You will be asked to show the following documents:
1) Passport
2) 50 mm x 50 mm PHOTOGRAPH
In my case, my photograph did not meet the dimension requirement. The photo MUST BE 50 mm X 50 mm. They told me to go to a near photo shop and get a new photograph and bring it back by 4:30 pm. I went there but the shop was on lunch break so I waited for a while. Fortunately the owner showed up on time that day at 3:30 pm. I took some photographs (10 euro) and walked back to the consulate. Then, I gave them to the officer and she took my fingerprints.
INTERVIEW DAY:
I woke up early and I was at the consulate gate at 630 in the morning. I did that because I had a flight to take in the evening and I wanted to be sure my visa would get issued that day and that I would not have to wait in line to get the passport. If you are not in a hurry, you dont have to wake up that early.
Anyway, the security guy collected our passports (first come, first serve) and let us in one by one at 7 30 am. We then sat and waited until the officers started working. The first part of the process is to collect the documentation requested (read my previous post on the documentation preparation). Then I signed the DS 156 forms in front of them and went back to my seat. After about 30 minutes, my number was called by the consule who looked like Dr. Ross of ER. He reviewed my doc package and made me swear. He asked me the following questions:
1) what is the mascotte of my university (silly question to break the ice)
2) where did I meet my fiance
3) what is my job
4) what is my fiance job.
After that, he told me he approved my visa and I could pick up the passport at 5 pm at the Mailbox etc shop.
PASSPORT PICK UP:
Again if you are in a hurry, show up early. The Mailbox etc shop opens at 4pm. When they open, walk in and get your number. Around 5 pm, a guy in a scooter will shop up with two big bags. They will then call the numbers and you can get in the shop to pick up your passport and the yellow envelope. VERIFY THAT THE PASSPORT IS YOURS AND THE YELLOW ENVELOPE CONTAINS YOUR NAME!!!!
After that, you are done and you can call you fiance and tell her/him you will be soon on a flight to the US.
I learned a lot from previous reviewers. Without their comments and suggestions my interview process would have not been so smooth. Therefore, I hope you read my post and find it helpful as well. Good luck.
