Embassy Review : |
The interview was at 1 PM on Tuesday 10/25/2011 and they allowed my wife inside around 12 noon. I alos went to Chennai but I was not allowed inside.
After the security check, she was allowed inside the main building. After 15 minutes a male officer checked all the documents and asked for additional documents, stating that those additional documents will make her case very strong, if provided. We were ready and she submitted i) my 2010 W-2 and ii) my Dad's I-864 packet.
Then her figure prints were taken and around 12:50 PM, a female CO took her interview. She asked some general questions like - who arranged our marraige, what was my job, when did i go to US, how many guests were present at marraige and then asked for the marraige album and barely looked 2 or 3 photos and then said "Your visa will be couriered in 7 business days".She was out by 1:10PM.
Then the next day was a hiliday at Chennai and so we were hoping to collect the visa papers and passport the following day (10/27/2011). But we didn't get. The next day was friday and we were disperate as we have our tickets booked for the Sunday (10/30) to return to US. So I called the number they gave to contact by telephone, which no one was answering. So I went to the Consulate and was allowed in at 3 PM. I spoke with the official and found that the visa papers were sent to the VFS and was asked to go to VFS to collect the visa documents.
The SMS came as my wife was in the line at VFS to collect the visa papers. We collected the Visa papers gladly - checked the details of the visa stamp in the passport and were off to the airport to go to Hyderabad. Then we got 10/29 to pack her stuff at Hyderabad and returned to Houston on 10/30.
On the whole our experience at the Consulate was good. We stayed at a hotel close by - Sea Shell Residency, which is walking distance frpm the Consulate.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
