Embassy Review : |
My appointment was for 9am and I arrived outside the embassy for about 8am. There were about 25 people in the queue in front of me, and this was well timed because about ten minutes later the queue tripled in size.
People were being let through to security a few at a time, showing their appointment letter and passport to a couple of people on the way. Security was similar to airport security. From here, you walk around the building to the entrance on the right and receive a ticket number. Then it's just a matter of waiting for your number to be called.
I managed to get a ticket by about half 8, and I was called on time for my appointment at 9. The man behind the desk took all my paperwork (passport photos, I-134 documents, police certificate, birth certificate etc.) and took my fingerprints. He was very nice, I think he had an Eastern European accent. He was quite jovial and we had a laugh together. He asked me how we met, but I have a feeling this was just out of interest. He then gave me the pink courier form and told me to wait for my number to be called again for the interview.
I wasn't waiting very long then I was called to an older American man, who again was very nice. He checked my documents and my fingerprints again, and asked me to write my fiancé's name on a pre-printed form and sign beneath it. The questions he asked were very simple: how did we meet, what does he do for a job, and where were each of these 'goofy photos' taken. I had a laugh with this guy also, though this was partly humouring him as he apparently found it hilarious that I was highly qualified but now unemployed because of the move, and my partner works for a charity. 'Well you're going to have a lot of income aren't you!'... how rude!! javascript:emoticon('')
He then explained the courier service, to which I asked whether that meant everything was ok. He said congratulations, and I may have squealed slightly in excitement! I queued up at the courier desk, paid the fee and left with a smile on my face. All in all the entire process from queueing to back to my hotel only took an hour and a half. It was a great experience and really, once you're inside the building, it's just like any other admin centre in the country.
Thank you to VisaJourney for all the information and help, I have no doubt there would have been delays without this site. The first interviewer I saw was very pleased I had all the necessary documents, and said most people are missing several items. Thanks VJ! |

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
