Just received RFE stating that my husband needs to provide tax returns even though he is retired military and is tax exempt so does not do any returns... having to make a tonne of calls to get letter from VA confirming all this... would have expected Homeland Security to make themselves aware of USA tax laws. Also RFE states that his sponsorship falls short of the minimum income requirement when his income is clearly ahead of their published poverty guidelines. The officer at USCIS that we spoke to this afternoon was very nice but was equally unable to fathom out what the problem was and advised us to write a letter referring USCIS to their own web site for the published income requirements.... We are very very confused and frustrated!
Update 09.18.12
Have just called the National Number to find out why we have heard nothing on my I-485 application (its 7 months since I filed) and it has been confirmed that my application falls outside of processing times which should have been 4 months :( An internal enquiry case has been opened on my behalf and I should hear within 15 days, if I don't hear anything than I have to call the national number back. |

Embassy Review : |
Well here is a review of my interview for anyone out there who is wanting to know a bit more about what to expect.
Firstly, Goulds Pharmacy (North Audley St, just off Grosvenor Squ)is absolutely brilliant for looking after your mobile phone or any electronics that you are carrying that are barred from the embassy. For 3 quid (per phone, may cost more for larger items) your stuff is safe and secure and they are open EARLY!
Next, onto the embassy. I was due at 8.30am, got there about 7.45am and everything was already in full swing... security checked into the main building and a given number beginning with I. The waiting room is bright and comfortable and busy. Tea, coffee, water and snacks are sold at the back of the room, the coffee is strong and the prices arent too bad. I'd tried to find out what to wear and worried that I might be too casual, but it appeared to be fairly relaxed in there and people were wearing everything from business suits to jeans and jumpers.
Most people seemed to have been given numbers beginning with N and these were called very quickly while 'I' numbers took much longer. Having said that I was called to the window for my (very thorough!) paperwork check, copy submissions and fingerprint scan about an hour after arriving, so not a very long wait at all.
Another sit down for just over an hour before being called to another window for my interview, which was very straightforward and took about 10 minutes I guess. The interviewer asked me a few key questions and then smiled and told me I was approved... whoop!
My passport and immigration packet is still with the embassy for visa processing and the courier company used (that you have to visit and pay before you leave the embassy) have advised it can take 8 - 10 days before I receive everything I need to travel. Bit concerned about this as thought it was 2 - 3 days and have a flight booked at the end of the month!!!
Returned to Goulds and picked up my phone and was back on the tube by 11am.
I thought it would be hard going and stressful, but it wasn't at all. The visa people are super efficient and very helpful.

Timeline Comments: None yet, be the first!
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
