Consulate Review: Nigeria Review Topic: K1 Visa Event Description Review Date : August 13, 2011 Embassy Review : My fiance went for her K1 interview on the 4th of August and what she told me after her interview is a testament that our planning and patience paid off greatly. She arrived at the consulate at about 6am and Joined a small queue and was called into the embassy shortly after 7am. She made the $350 visa fee payment and tendered the X-rays and medical exams records from Komaras clinic. She then waited for about 3hrs until it was her turn to interview. She stated a white guy interviewed her that the questions were mostly predictable, and goes as follows: How long have you known your fiancee? - Over 10yrs Where did you meet? We met in the university. Which university? University of Ilorin. U said that u met in the university? What course did your fiancee study? Mechanical Engineering. How did he travel to the US? - He won visa lottery in 2004 and left to the US in 2005. Did your family approve both of you planning to get married Yes, they are very supportive, my regret is that they cannot make it to the wedding Did you have any engagement party in Nigeria? Yes, and I have the pictures included in the album. Ok. show me the photos. My fiance then brought out the large album that I had helped her arrange that contains over 300photos of our traditional engagement in the village. While going through the album the interviewer also observed photos of small party that my work people did for me at work after I got engaged. I specifically asked my fiance to include the photos because it has both of our photos showing in the background and I was sure the folks at the embassy will find the pictures interesting. She told me the visa officer seems impressed that my colleague at work had me a party. He then asked about our wedding preparation, and she answered that we are planning for a small church wedding in Los Angeles. Where will the wedding be? How do you feel that your family are not able to attend your wedding? Where will you stay in the US? She told him my address in Newport Beach. The the visa officer asked her if I did tell her about the beach in city of Newport Beach. She answered no that I only told her that I liv in a large apartment complex that parking is often difficult. The visa officer then told her congratulations and gave her the address where she should go pick her visa in a weeks time. For those beginning this journey and for those whose interview is approaching I hope that you find my review helpful. Before I started the process I had no clue how to go about it and was concern with the wait period after I started. I learnt a lot of VisaJourney (VJ) at every step of the way I consulted with VJ. I found the site very useful. Everyone on the site has been so caring and always willing to share information. N.B: She told me of a lady that was denied K1 visa because she did not know the address in the US where her fiancee (would be husband) lives. This sound ridiculous but folks it pays to do homework well and to go prepared expecting all types of Rating : Not Rated
