My husband and I went to Montreal a week before the interview date, which had been rescheduled for Jan 29th. His medical was scheduled for Jan 22nd at the Medisys there in Montreal. (we got results back Monday afternoon, so just in time for interview next day). We stayed at Le Hotel Dauphin which is just a short walk from the consulate. Very nice hotel and within walking distance to most everything you would need during the stay.
The morning of the interview we left the hotel at 6am in order to go to Tim Hortons for a coffee and breakfast. The Tim Hortons is just a block from the consulate. We got to the consulate just before 7am and there were already 2 couples and 2 others waiting. They were standing on the wrong side but thanks to other reviewers on visaJourney I knew we had to stand on the left side of the building. Hubby said are you sure? Everyone is lined up on the other side. I just smiled and said trust me. Shortly after that one of the couples said the line was the other way. I said I had been told we were to line up where I was standing and sure enough a very nice couple said oh yeah that is right we read that on visa journey and everyone moved to where hubby and I were standing.
It was so cold and everyone was just trying to stay warm. We talked a bit with the other couple who were on VisaJourney as well.
At 7:30am the guard opened the door and let the first few people through. We knew ahead of time not to bring any big bags, phones etc. I just had a clear plastic file folder thing with all our paperwork in it. While we were waiting on the lady to check passports, interview letters and loomis confirmation numbers, I got those things out and ready so when it was our turn I just handed her the papers without her having to ask.
She put a sticker on the back of hubby's passport and wrote his loomis confirmation number on it and handing everything back to us. We then went up the a few steps and waited on a guard to let us in. They only let you go in 2 couples at a time. When they let you in you have to put everything in bins, empty your pockets, take off your hats, belts, jackets etc. Then when they tell you, you step through a security gate thing just like at the airport. When you are cleared you grab all your stuff and head through the door and down a flight of stairs into the elevator waiting room. There was a passport picture machine down there, for $10 you can get 3 passport photos I think it said.
By the time we got down there the seat nearest the elevator was occupied but we sat pretty close. I warned hubby that when I said get up and stand at elevator get up and move fast. We talked to another couple who also are on VisaJourney. Finally about 8am the guard came down and you could tell who had read consulate reviews because we all made mad dashes for the elevator and knew to stand at the back left.
The elevator is freaky. You cannot even tell it is moving til the door opens and you have to exit and go to the line to get your number. Hubby and I got C2 and almost as soon as we had sat down we were called to the first window. They asked for the medical exam and hubby's passport. He handed us back the disk with hubby's xrays. He asked us a few more questions: hubby's mailing address, my address, hubby's mothers maiden name and telephone numbers. He seemed to just be verifying we were who we said we were. We had already sent in all the original documents so he didn't have to ask for any of those. Then he took hubby's fingerprints and told us to have a seat and we would be called shortly to another window.
We sat down and waited maybe 20 to 25 minutes before we were called to window 6. I was hoping to get the lady with the dreads I have read so much about but we didn't get her. We got a very nice young African American woman. She had us raise our right hands and swear that everything in our file and anything we said during the interview was the truth. She did a lot of typing and asked a few questions. She asked how we met and smiled and said our story was so cute. She asked hubby what he was going to do when he got to the states, as far as work that is. She asked me where I was living, and what I did for a living. Then she did a ton of typing and looking through all the papers.
She handed back hubby's original birth certificate and our original marriage certificate. Did some more typing and then said congratulations I am approving your visa and handed us a paper with some info about what happens now basically. I smiled and was said Thank you a few times. Hubby was like wow really? That's it? I think he was expecting to be grilled under a spot light, maybe have a cavity search or something. LOL But we spent more time waiting to be called than the actual interview took. It was pretty painless, well the interview part. I was nervous but we had nothing to hide so it went smoothly.
She of course kept his passport and told him that they will be putting his visa in it and Loomis would be contacting us to tell us when it is ready to be picked up. We left feeling so much lighter than we had when we started out the day. We gave thumbs up and waved to one of the other couples we had talked to while waiting to get into the building then practically floated into the elevator and out the door. It was crazy trying to get out of the building. There were so many people in the lobby going through security that we had a hard time getting out the front door.
I was figuring it would be about a week before hubby's visa packet and passport were ready for pick up but the day after our interview he got an email and a call from Loomis to say it was ready for pickup. javascript:emoticon('')
I want to thank everyone who has done reviews and answered questions. Having this resource has made the whole process go much more smoothly and being informed about the little ins and outs of the consulate was so helpful, I really cannot even describe how helpful. |

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
